Over the past five years I look back and I see the progress I have made since the diagnosis. I will graduate college with a GPA anywhere between a 2.9-3.0. I have been successfully employed at a grocery store for five years. I managed to save enough money to invest in a mutual fund, I cook better, I look better, I dress better and I have plans for the future. I'm 33 now and for the first time in my life I can honestly say that I feel good about myself on the inside and the outside.

John, just out of interest, do you think you would have been able to move on in this way if you had not been diagnosed 5.5 years ago?
What difference has the diagnosis made on the way you approach life, set expectations, manage your life etc..?

You mentioned in another thread

Quote:
But even with alll that I have now I still look back on the past and it depresses the hell out of me. I think to myself if I would have just KNOWN about what was going on with me I would not have had to live such an awful existence.

I think a lot of us can relate to that. So the message from this is that the earlier the diagnosis, the better....?
Maybe for some it has had the opposite effect?

Oh there is no way in hell my life would have been as fruitful as it is now had I not been diagnosed. I would've more than likely wound up homeless. Yeah I would say that before this my entire life was like trying to keep life from sending me back to heaven or whatever one believes in.

I see what you are getting at though. Having to suffer for a long time then getting the diagnosis when you are older makes you more motivated to succeed provided you have the right environment backing you up.
