I dont know if this is an autistic thing, or if perhaps I am actually being reasonable with this pet peeve of mine, The pet peeve is when guys use the words; boss, pal, chief, buddy, guy, killer, bud, big guy. It seems so disrespectful to me...every single one of them. I know this may seem counter-intuitive as those words usually have a positive connotation, but just hearing some trashbag say ''thanks a lot boss'' turns my stomach.

I can't stand it either. It's not always good either. Big guy is the one I can't stand. I was called it all summer at work, I couldn't stand it.

Granted I am a big guy, but it's not the point, I couldn't go around calling the small folk little guy now could I?

I suppose it is because I'm not male, but I never actually heard those terms used in conversation. However, I cannot tell you how much I hate it when someone calls me sweetie or honey or something along those lines. It is absolutely unnecessary, and it makes me cringe.

I hate all those types of terminology, it seems over familiar and sickly.

When someone says that, and they don't know you, it can be positive or negative depending on the level of sarcasm and the region. If they're being intentional disrespectful, you're supposed to be able to read it out of tone and off of facial expressions.

But I suppose not everyone gets that for free.

im not saying that they always MEAN harm...i am just saying that they are sleazebag words. The pizza hut guy today kept calling me guy and buddy and im sure he was not trying to be a dick but it was annoying.

The only ones that bother me are "guy" and "cuz". Guy has no affection to it, it just sounds weird, and don't call me "cuz" unless you're my cousin.

Some of those terms, taken literally, may seem offensive. Why would someone you've just met call you "buddy" when you don't even know each other? How could some random dude call you "bro" when you're not his brother? The terms become meaningless in those contexts. Despite this, I'd rather someone call me "dude" or "bro" than "f*g" or "stupid".

It's not disrespectful to use the terms, well not in Australia.

The problem is that you may not be able to read the intent of the words.

The intention is to be friendly and create closeness. Is that what you find offensive? This informal familiarity from a stranger? Its kinds nice he is being friendly with you an aspie?
I prefer working class jargon, than using words like spiffing, superb, delectable et al.

Since accepting my asd, I have moved closer to the repressed people in society.
Much of my bullying came from wealthy or upper middle class people....

Killer? That's a new one for me....

They are just slang words for addressing someone particularly if they don't know the person's name - it's everywhere, I am afraid. Be grateful you aren't in Australia, you would get called 'mate' every 5 minutes.

I don't like those either. Like someone else mentioned, big guy is the absolute worst. I'm not heavy in the least but I get called "big guy" all the time, and it makes me cringe every time I hear it. I know that some of the people who called me that didn't mean anything by it, but it just sounds so disrespectful to me.
