My mom asked me that a few weeks ago. I'm constantly pushing my fingernails/fingertips against fingers, usually nearby fingers, on the same hand.

Do you do that? I never callouses from doing it, but....

I do. I rub my thumb against the side of my 1st finger and get some tough skin there, and I rub the tip of my 1st finger nails on the pads of my thumbs. I have pointed acrylic nails as well so I have cut or irritated my thumbpads at times.

I find taking a fidget toy or small cuddly toy helps me stop it. The little guy in my avatar comes out in my handbag a lot. I might get odd looks on the bus but I'm not clawing myself to bits!

I've naturally gotten callouses on my hand during workout routines in weightlifting. The hands don't quite feel as smooth as they could as a result, but it's a small price I pay for feeling better.

I used to get skin peeled off at times. I haven't had that happen for a while, though, and I know why.

I'm terrible for picking at my cuticles if there is a little rag of skin peeling off I have to pick & pull at it until it comes off. And picking at my feet. And scratching chapped bits off my lips.

Hmm, I can't guess why I am permanently single!

Eeww! lol  Painful to pick at your cuticles. You are a woman/girl? Your profile says female, but you can't trust that (OSB is not not a male, but has herself listed as such).

Thought females less in the way of nasty habits. :D

I play the fiddle: it's my de-stresser. The sound of the music, the pressure of my fingers on the strings and the bow, the smell of rosin all contribute to playing being my relief method. It is the only thing I have found so far that can focus my brain completely. I mean, usually I can't stop thinking at least 3 different things but playing channels my concentration and I can just, not think. It does give me calusses though...

Not for years. When I used to deliver papers, my hands turned grey because of all the ground in ink.
