Ok, so I know there are a TON of threads here on WP about NVLD and ASD.

I just took an IQ test and my verbal IQ is much higher than my performance IQ (at least on this test).
Some would say that I have NVLD then.

A contrast between the two is needed:
Traits I have that correspond with:
NVLD:
-Hyperlexic (first word at 8 months, reading by age 3).
- VERY good with words, spelling, skipped 7 grades of reading comprehension
-Bad at arithmetic
- Clumsy, delay in motor skills
- All of the social issues
asso. with NVLD

ASD:
-Echolalic (severe for 12 years, still echo daily)
-Very good visually, great at geometry, trig, physics, and I am an artistic savant
-Great balance, excel at horse riding and ballet
-Social issues mainly verbal, (not getting sarcasm, being too literal, unable to read into words)
-Stimming, need for routines, lining things up, and intense special interests,

My trouble with the IQ was this:
- Slow processing
- Trouble with verbal memory
(Great at visual memory, almost eidetic memory)

So, what to think? Where to draw the line? Does anyone else have these issues? It's clear that I'm autistic, but can you be autistic and still have a HUGE gap between VIQ and PIQ?

So confusing.

Well, NVLD and Asperger's are very similar... I don't know that anything on either of your lists fits better with one than the other.

However, from what I've read/seen while trying to find out whatever I could about ASDs, yes, you can have a much higher VIQ than PIQ and still be autistic. It's not even particularly rare, which is partly why it's recommended that IQ tests not be relied on for diagnosing ASD. Apparently they are sometimes used when looking for ADHD, though, and possibly other things.

i wouldn't concern myself with IQ, take a relative group of people with 110+ iq, you'll notice autistic traits and aspergic traits, also sociopathic ones, etc.

verbal ability is okay, but it's really a measure of aptitude on cognition and verbal expression of cognition that it's trying to establish, rather than associative memory. IQ is pretty useless at measuring deficit or exception, it's just a yardstick of progression in educational milestones due to the testing paradigm of modern education.

there are exceptions, there's other forms of IQ testing that don't resemble PSAT's or SAT's, but it's rare that you'd be offered to take them in an academic setting.

I'd just go with the diagnosis I'd get in your situation. You're welcome here regardless of official diagnosis, anyway.

What is your visual working memory like? There was a thread here not long ago with a test.

Here is the link http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt157308.html
