Autism, mercury and the Cutler protocol...
Hi all, my name's Paul, I'm 18 and I live in the UK. A lengthy first post ahead so bear with me. I wasn't sure to do this but I've registered here because I -like many- was diagnosed with Aspergers a few years back. At the time, I didn't react so much with closure as I did with a lack of belief that how I acted and felt could possibly be a part of me. I always seemed to feel as if I was completely out of control of my mind and body and I found even the slightest social interaction a big task. I've always viewed Aspergers as a label to avoid helping me with what's really going on and that while it was great in the gifts aspect, it was awful in the lack of affection and joy I could feel in anything else.
I was soon to venture into my own personal research into what could be going on. I searched all over the internet for answer and came to many things such as food allergy/celiacs disease, imbalanced hormone regulation, neurotransmitter imbalance etc. but none fit the bill and after a year and a half of research, I eventually led to one conclusion, mercury poisoning. I had mercury fillings age 5 and before then I had my full set of vaccines and my mom had a full mouth of mercury fillings too when having me. This is one of the most controversial areas in Autism and I wasn't sure to bring it to these forums as I am unsure of the response but I feel people have a right to know what I've learnt. I had read success stories of a particularly safe regime for this called the Cutler protocol. ASAP I began chelation on simple supplements (Bs, Cs etc) and dosing every 3 hours of Alpha-lipoic acid and DMSA in the hopes that it would restore harmony in a mind that felt under a barrage of torment and isolation. Long story short, it is.
Now, this required a lot of patience as I'm not there yet even 36 weeks in but I have seen a huge reduction in all of my symptoms to the point I question if I have signs of Aspergers any more; I've become social enough to make meaningful relationships for the most part, I'm less obsessive and I have a lot better sleep, my emotions and eye contact have become decidedly less 'painful', my expressions are brighter and I feel a lot fitter to boot. A big feeling I've had is a 'Mr Hyde' sensation as if I'm melting down which has been very much reduced to only occurring while chelating the mercury out as opposed to every other day.
This is a big deal to me and I know if I can recover as far as I have a lot of you can too. I'm not saying it applies to everyone, although I do believe in a lot of the conspiracies surrounding vaccines and fillings for my own reasons but if this just benefits anyone it'll be worth it. I don't want to cite facts and articles (I'm not in for a debate) as much as I want to speak from personal experience. This is the real deal. It's an often difficult but completely worth-while experience and has instilled hope in me again. If you got this far and you have any questions for me and my progress or how to get started if you wish then I'll happily oblige. Phew.

I wish you would use the return key every now and then
Never underestimate the significance of the mind body link.
Keep it up and keep learning. In my view - eat paleo.
Also fillings do suck. Some people have them removed. I have never had any myself for no good reason really but I would not accept them.
Cheers for the reply, I was worried I would be seen as a bit of a heretic after seeing the whole controversy on the topic. I do eat paleo for the most part and I generally find junk food and sugar to be pretty disgusting now. Give me a steak and a heaped serving of veg and I'll be content. I think this is helping me in the mean time but Mercury seems to be a root cause of a lot of problems (although even after chelation I don't intend to ever revert my diet).

Damn I cant embed a video. I did it the other day and now I'm not sure how.
Interesting video, it just highlights the injustice a good majority suffer. I agree with the profits side, the government certainly doesn't have our interests at heart and is bent on keeping this covered until they are not liable for suffering and the damage is done. Just wondering, is there anyone who understands mercury chelation the way I do/has maybe experienced the benefits? Or is there a general consensus on Mercury on these forums? I lurked a little before I joined and I see a lot of discussion about symptoms of Aspergers but not much about the cause/mercury as a cause. I know if someone knew what I know and they didn't tell me I'd have been angry as I personally didn't see it as much of a blessing and I haven't regretted losing my issues despite being called a hypochondriac multiple times by sceptics.

The main view of this forum is that mercury does not cause autism.

Interesting, everybody's entitled to their opinion, in mine the proof is in the progress and in my case my aspergers is caused by mercury and I think it has to be the case for a good portion of people. I can't think of any other causes as genetics doesn't seem an appropriate cause to me. The nature of that as well is that it would be unchangeable but I'm improving a lot by the day. I'm curious why mercury has not been explored more as it is neurodegenerative and if there are any other views on personal causes. Ive never thought it was good to put all your eggs in one basket by solely believing he NHS, being analytical I have to check every avenue before I'm satisfied.
The symptoms of mercury poisoning are not more than vaguely similar to the symptoms of autism. The two syndromes are completely unrelated. This has been borne out by multiple scientific studies.
If you are willing to accept mere anecdotal evidence, the Internet will lead you to conclude that autism is caused by mercury, vaccinations in general, other heavy metals, milk, wheat, too much meat, too little meat, drinking during pregnancy, not drinking during pregnancy, crystals, the Millennium, and/or alien intervention. I prefer to rely on things like double-blind studies and peer-reviewed data, thanks.

Except I'm not relying on anecdotal evidence, I'm looking at personal experience. A year back I was horribly awkward in most situations, I had ruminations and my fair share of obsessions plus a formal aspergers diagnosis. I am scientific in my own approach and I take how I feel as my own evidence, if that is not enough for you that's fine. I respect that. Just don't sarcastically dump this and my experience in the realms of crackpot theories without basis to disprove my very real progress.
Edit: also I'm happy with my response to what I'm doing, why patronize someone actively helping themselves and simply putting across a view for benefit of others. It just comes across as rude. I am in no way deluded and I think ill leave this if a hopeful discussion descends into labelling.
Here's a whole article on "Anecdotal Evidence", just in case anyone wants a little education. I especially like this part:
Paul!
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your successful efforts! I am so, so happy for you! You are so very brave to dare to think for yourself, do your own research, and figure out and correct your mineral imbalance. Not many people have the guts to do that, so congrats to you!
As I am sure you found in your research, there are lots and lots of other warriors such as yourself - warrior mom and dads - who also research tirelessly to help their children. I have no doubt that if it was your child who had this, you would have done just as much work to recover him/her.
You should feel very proud and THANK YOU for taking the time to write here and share your success. I assure you that it WILL help somebody, someday, even if you never know it. All the best to you in the future, as you begin a new chapter in your life, free from many of the limitations you previously had!

Oh man, how did I manage without being part of an Autism forum for all these years? Love that answer

OP, your conclusions are very interesting and I think everyone will be happy for you now you feel that you're taking proactive steps to conquer your own control demons. You have to be aware of something though; diets (like any form of self-improvement) require considerable self-belief. The clinical evidence linking mercury/autism is weak while the evidence disproving such a link is strong.
Still, who are we to know if you're right or not? The main thing is that you find strength and improvement through your actions - much respect to you for that. Keep spreading the word because your opinions are as important as anyone elses, just brace yourself for people who will quite legitimately use medical evidence to support their disagreement with your conclusions.
It is nice how your point was underlined by the posts immediately following, yes. At least I wasn't called a "bully" for pointing at the laws of physics...
