Is this due to aspergers? does anyone else suffer with this? or is it just me as me?
I really am terribly, completely afraid of the dark. Night times are nightmare times. I become really paranoid and have panic attacks in the house, I cant walk outside when its dark no way. Lots of nights i dont sleep at all,, even if the light is on, im still terrified, because its night. It feels and smells different from the daytime.
Does anyone else suffer like this?

I have to sleep with a small, dim light. If I don't, I'll have Night Terrors.

I'm only a little afraid of the dark. When I'm under my blankets in bed, I feel safe. I don't like walking around when it's dark, though.

I'm not really afraid of the dark. I never really was. Only dark places that make nervous is when there is no light like caves or the hole (something that prisons used to have that had no light).

This does not seem to be related to autism. My completely non-autistic 27 year old cousin still needs a dim lightsource when he goes to sleep to avoid nightmares. Meanwhile I preffer complete darkness.

I'm really not sure if it's an aspie thing, it's hard to say. But I have a harder time getting to sleep without some sort of light on near me. I usually watch tv or a movie in bed and set a timer on my tv and I sleep like a baby. I'm 22 and I know goddamn well there is nothing there but I have a slight fear that there is someone (thing) there watching me or something of that nature... I CAN sleep in complete darkness if I need to but I'd prefer a light.

Nope I don't have a specific issue with the dark.....I actually kind of like it. Also when its dark I can't see the visual distortions I seem to have developed within the past year as well. But yeah I am not sure if its common for aspies to fear the dark, but I am sure it is possible.

I keep my lamp on at night to keep the monsters away. I don't think it's an AS thing, more of a personal fear thing.

I think I'm this way because of all the sci-fi shows I watch. Same happened to me when I watched Lord of the Rings. It probably goes deeper than that. Maybe there's a real reason to the anxiety but they come in the form of these monsters.
Having a heightened sense of hearing, short hallucinations and being left alone in a well known dangerous town does increase the paranoia somewhat.

I can only sleep in a room that is completely and totally blacked out. I was never afraid of the dark.

I prefer absolute darkness.

Also maybe a fan for a nice breeze. Then I'll have some nice deep sleep.

I have this at times, usually when i can't fall asleep right away and my creativity jumps awake.. i'm afraid of the unknown and to my mind unknown is the best opportunity to figure something out myself (BAD IDEA).
i am searching for a small lavalamp or aquarium i could put in my room to give me some degree of light and a sense of security.

I need like a zero light environment to fall asleep. A computer monitor in another room being on will bother me.

No, I am not afraid of the dark.

Nothing can be more scary than crowds of people. Nothing.
