ADOS TEST
Ok.... who on the board took an Ados test for an ASD diagnosis? My daughter took one two years ago and was right on the line.... Then we saw a former chief of Psychiatry at a Sick Kids Hospital (for 11 years) right before Christmas and she gave her a high functioning ASD diagnosis.... Her pediatrician today argued her findings.... Has anyone else had something like this happen to them?
I am and have always been 100% convinced she has ASD. My son has Asperger's - and there has never been any doubt in anyone's eyes... but my daughter has always been a huge mystery and non-text book like my son.

This may be due to the fact that boys with aspergers have been studied way way more than girls with aspergers. Years ago when an ex first suggested i might have it, i searched relentlessly and only found a few books on aspergers pertaining to males and none for females. None of it sounded like me, because aspergers in girls is far different.
I have interacted with many psychologists and psychiatrists for mostly professional reasons (met with a few for personal transitional reasons over the years), and none of them concluded i have aspergers. One identified PTSD and the others just thought i was intentionally difficult because they had no idea of the internal struggles i have with working to follow social rules and nonsense that i can't seem to just learn and follow naturally like everyone else. They also could not see my intense feelings of agitation from too much social interaction and just from being overwhelmed all around.
Is there a reason you need a diagnosis for your daughter? The search for a "professional" diagnosis for myself has become a nightmare. I give up. I have a master's degree in psychology (go figure), and I can't seem to find anyone with a half a brain to understand what it's like to be me. They're always telling me I'm wrong about myself. ; /

I took ADOS module 4 back in June of 2012. My score was the highest the clinician ever seen.

My mom took that test for me over the phone 4 years ago.
And yeah, it's normal in our society to teach young girls how to be "ladies", so what ends up happening is that the social skills that go over the head of many autistic boys are taught to, and learned by autistic girls. That could be why you are having such a hard time with diagnosis.

I took the ADOS. It was administered by a woman psychologist, which helped immensely.
(If you can't tell, I'm female)
People who don't know anything will argue it. It's a fact of life for someone with an ASD. Just got to accept it, know yourself and your daughter, and not let it bother you.
Or bluntly correct them. Your choice.
