I've posted to several threads recently about stimming, and just remembered something that I supposed is related that I didn't add to those posts. Certain rhythmic chores seem to calm me. These include chopping vegetables by hand rather than using a food processor; painting -- not a picture, but rather a wall or a signboard; sweeping floors, and raking leaves. Instead of seeing these things as just something that needs to be done, I slow down and perform it as slowly or quickly as feels comfortable and it's very therapeutic. I find that now that I see these chores in this manner, doing them doesn't feel like work anymore.

That's interesting. I have constant stimming that is rhythmic. It's like my heartbeat or breathing. I wish I could transfer that to my chores, then I might get my house work done. I just tried it and it didn't work for me. :(

Its understandable that certain chores or duties can be rhythmic. When i worked at various stores in the past i used to love alphabetizing things such as CDs when i worked at Tower Records and i would do whole carts of these, i loved alphabetizing things an putting them where they go. When i worked at Gamestop i loved alphabetizing the cases on the wall and also all the discs in the sleeves in the drawers.

While it's not really rhythmic (alphabetizing) i do stim that is verbal and that is always the same or set of same verbal stims.
There are times mowing the lawn, vacuuming (this really varies on the carpet and how much stuff is in the room). I think it's that i like to watch the progress as the grass gets shorter and i can see how much i've done. This is why the vacuuming varies, if it is a lot of carpet i can see the carpet waves in it. Usually our carpets not too messy, we're going to tear it up eventually anyway.

My old neighbor when i used to live in SC always hummed along with his lawn mower while he mowed his yard. It was almost like his verbal stim yet i think it was due to the lawn mowers humming and it somehow connected them.
When i was a child and my mother had to blowdry my hair i always hummed with the blowdryer. I'm not sure if it was a good stim due to the noise of the blowdrier or since i didn't like to sit still and hated having my hair combed or done (had really long hair...

I like the sound of machine gun fire and the machines at the factory. I could listen to these two sounds for hours on end...

For me, listening to the metronome on my music program makes me feel relaxed and comfortable. As well as when I am playing DMO (Digimon Masters Online), "grinding" or killing repeatedly makes me feel so comfortable. I love just hearing the clicking of my mouse while I lay on my bed.
