Mike,
I can't say for sure but I am guessing you are not a parent of an autistic child. This forum is for parents. Parents find great comfort in this forum to say many deeply personal things in anonymity and with privacy that might be inappropriate for ASD children to read or know about. Knowing that ASD children are not only in the parents forum but also responding to parents when they express deeply personal feelings on autistic-related issues has the effect of inhibiting or stifling our expressions. Parents might naturally feel inhibited to write truthfully if they know ASD children are reading their posts and will get upset. Now it's definitely true that I have benefitted from autistic individuals on this parents forum but I'm not sure if they are parents. The insight they provide is so valuable. But I truly feel the harm of having children or nonparents on this forum, because of the stifling effect it has, is greater than the benefit of the knowledge I have gained from them. It can be harmful to the children and nonparents and it's also harmful to the free expression of parents.
re: her babbling...what a crock of s**t. My diagnoses notwithstanding, I can say with a reasonable amount of confidence that I've found a policy of openness and honesty when dealing with my kid to be the most reasonable, respectful and rational means of dealing with things.
Based on this snippet, she comes across, to me, as one of those "This is for your own good" parents. I loathe them.
You, madam, may feel free to kiss my ass.
