I remember a while back starting to watch "Lie to Me". First of all, I didn't even know you could tell so much from someone's body language and that people did this automatically for a long time. It seemed even more impossible that there were micro expressions which people missed.

I tried (with the people I could look in the eye) to catch these but I never saw one and eventually gave up.

I've taken the Reading the Eyes test and I found it ridiculous. There wasn't even an I don't know button and many of times none of the words fit but I could see which one I should put.

A few days ago I discussed how an irony test should be done (quickly) but couldn't find a good one. Today I decided to find other expression tests and I found this one. Due to it's quickness I think it's a better measure of how we interpret emotions in real life. I haven't seen it around here so I thought I should post.

Quiz/Test
You'll have to manually score. It's only 10 faces though. I'd say you should flash them as much as you want but only guess once unlike the instructions say. You can use your keyboard to see the flashed face. I didn't do it.

I didn't even see the first one flash by.
I'm undiagnosed but pretty sure I have it.
I got about 4-5 right. Flashed some quite few times, but only guessed once.
I'm absolutely stumped by 9.

State your score and whether you're NT, AS, ASD, Diagnosed, or Not. Let's see what the difference is because it wasn't meant to test for autism or anything.
Or just discuss :)

Wasn't sure how to do a poll, or if it would even have been editable, so I'm keeping count:

Not Sure/Undiagnosed: 3-5 Correct, Some outliers (9)
NT: ? Anybody?
Diagnosed AS or ASD: 4

5 here. Was stumped by several of them and only got 5 by accident..

I don't see how anyone can determine an expression that fast.. takes me a second or two normally.

They're supposed to be hard for NTs too but at the same time they can read quick changes in expression and I know people who have learned to see micro expressions (I've never seen one ever though). I think it would be more accurate than the Mind in the Eyes or whatever it was called because most people with AS ace it since they have time to think and it only relies on the eyes. Even if this one is super hard for people with AS, we still get some right, so it could be compared to NT scores.

I got four right but didn't make a decision or didn't have an opinion until I'd flashed them all a few times. Nine was easy for me because she looked sad before I even clicked it, haha...had no idea what the flashed face looked like, just went with the initial facial expression. Not diagnosed here; I get the results of my assessment in two weeks.

That's really hard, I don't know how anyone is meant to do well on that, it flashes so quickly. I got 3 right first go.

I flashed them about ten times each, and got 4/10, mainly by guesswork. I have AS.

I actually got 7, but that's because I managed to get a couple of the expressions to stay on the screen for more than just a flash, so I had time to figure out what they were.

I got 9/10...I'm NT, but I'm a clinical social worker (LCSW) working as a behavior analyst for clients with developmental disorders & various forms of autism, so I'm pretty sensitive to microexpressions, given the number of limited verbal or nonverbal (or ASL) clients with whom I work. I confused contempt with disgust on the one I missed.

Cool stuff, & nice to meet everyone! :D
