Yeah. Go watch Hunger Games. If that doesn't put you to sleep, nothing else will.

Ironically, I am sitting here at 3 a.m. with a cup of tea - yours is the first post in the queue.

A good long walk not too close to when you want to sleep might help. I did not do anything to wind down tonight - I did homework after a very busy day and that does not make for a restful sleep. I get tired, but I don't sleep well.

I don't know. Is this a spell you can wait out, is this something that is interfering with life or would you just like something more regular? I find that sometimes I just have to go with what my body is doing and let sleep do what it will. I have to be up early for school so I won't have much sleep - again this week. But, I am sipping my tea and not stressing about it. I don't like it, but I can't do much right at the moment.

I take 'Melatonin Ultra' by Schiff. Seems to work but it takes 2, sometimes 3, to make me feel sleepy.

SERIOUSLY, get our thyroid checked. Hypothyroidism can mess with the body clock. If you want to test it before you see a doc, get a thermometer, keep it next to your bed, and as SOON AS you awaken, measure your temp. If it is at all less than normal, then you probably have it, and there are pills which can help.
If your temp is normal, then it may simply be a different thyroid issue than I had - still worth checking out. If not, at least you ruled it out.
And avoid caffeine before bed. Some people, especially once over 40, and female (no idea if that's you - I'm too lazy to check) can have trouble sleeping if they had a cup of tea in the morning. Your body can become sensitive.

Just some possibilities.

i would not usually suggest medicane, but i have had this problem and took phenergon, its for travel sickness but also makes you sleep, if you took a low dose of that untill your sleep patterns are back to normal.

i had anxiety so bad that my sleep patterns had actually reversed its self, phenergon did help, but not long term because thats also not good. if anxiety is your problem also or just hyperactivity then beta blockers may help, because they help you to relax, or going to the doctors may be the best thing to do

Let's hope you will still fall asleep tonight. Sometimes I have slept a lot in the day (due to boredom but too agoraphobic to go out), and surprisingly enough I fell asleep OK that night too. But unfortunately that mostly doesn't happen all the time, depending on what state my body is in at the time really.

I understand it can be tempting to sleep during the day, and it is quite normal to feel guilty afterwards and worry about your body clock. What is your climate like at the moment? If it's not too warm (especially at night) I usually switch off my radiator in my room way before bedtime, even if it is really cold. That way I can sleep way easier at night if my room is cold, also if most of my body is extremely cold. But that may not work for everybody, and also it's harder to get your room cold in warmer weather conditions.

Are you taking them at night.....if so switch to the morning. Otherwise maybe you could try a different anti-depressant . The one I'm taking right now , Cipralex (an SSRI) actually helps me sleep if I take it at night. Different SSRI's can have different effects on the same person......you should ask your doctor about trying a different one.

I think the movie "the spirit of st.louis" should do it, three hours of listening to a soft spoken james stewart will do the trick

A serious suggestion is to take melatonin or if you want to try stay up as much as you can and tire yourself out so much that you will eventually go to sleep at night. the former is natural, i used to take advil pm but that has aspirin nsaid which is bad for your liver if taken excessively...

I have the same problem. My suggestion is getting into the habit of going to be really early. For example if you have to work at eight, go to bed early enough that you will wake up severial hours before getting ready for work. This provides a sort of buffer in case you can't fall asleep. Another thing that works is meditating. Another thing is trying to eating turkey or taking medicine that helps you falll sleep eaiser.
