Can AS vary in its "intensity" over the years of your life? I have always had my AS traits, but it seems that there have been periods of my life where certain traits were more or less dominant and caused me greater or lesser amounts of problems functioning in everyday life. It seems to me now that, overall, my AS is INCREASING in severity as I get older, even as I gain more self-knowledge and learn to deal with things better - does that make sense? I mean, my mental inclinations are more and more dominated by my AS, even as I outwardly deal with it better. Does anyone know what I mean, or relate to this? Is it something "normal" within AS, or do people generally stay the same throughout their lives?

I have found that my AS symptoms increase when my Fibromyalgia flares. I think I do alot of compensating without realizing it and when my energy levels drop I can't keep up and my AS shows more. Have you been having more stress and/or been busier lately?

I also have Fibro. the same happens to me during a flare-up. The Fibro in & of itself is draining. Severe fatigue can sweep over me like a tidal wave. I'm, in a flare-up now & I can barely stand being around people. With all the pain & constant fatigue, all I want to do is sleep, take therapeutic baths to ese the pain in my muscles, read, & wait the flare-up out. Do you find that forcing yourself to socialize & interact with others during flare-ups makes BOTH the Fibro & the AS worse? I find that the Fibro flare-ups last longer & increase in severity if I push myself. I've learned to manage my symptoms & respect my needs.

Well, with me it has probably decreased, at least publicly. Privately, maybe some of the stuff is more pronounced. Of course, I don't have fybromyalgia, and my stims have never been that pronounced. I think I DO act more autistic when I try to supplement relevant amino acids, so some might just be nutrition.

BTW I AM in my 40s. The biggest decline has probably been in the last 15 years. That is due primarily to abose from others, various questions, and people not wanting long explanations/answers.

I tend to find my AS is more intense when I'm stressed and a lot less so when I'm not.
