Well this afternoon I am going to the Seaver Research Institute for a diagnosis to see if I will qualify for a research study. First they will diagnose me according to ADOS test. I just researched it and I doubt I will pass, because it is based upon behavioral observation, and I have probably adapted too well to qualify LOL

Anyway, I was hoping to get a respectable second opinion that would hopefully put my question about my Dx to rest, but now I think I will wind up with more confusion. Waaaah!

Shouldn't you be saying that you are going there for an assessment? Unless you are already correctly diagnosed elsewhere, you have no way of knowing the outcome of your assessment there surely?

I am there for an assessment AND to participate in the trial/research study if I qualify. Thing is, if they screen first with the ADOS I will probably not get to Round 2 of the assessment. I guess I will just see what happens.

I was already diagnosed with AS by a reputable clinician, but I'm feeling unsettled. I want to get a second opinion, and the trial sounds interesting anyway which I'd love to do if I do qualify (nasal spray oxytocin) as they also do scans of the brain function etc. The nerd in me just can't resist, LOL

I guess one could say I could "act" more AS to qualify but that wouldn't be honest. I want an accurate assessment done for a definitive answer, plain and simple. If I skew the results in any way I will just continue to keep second guessing everything about myself.

It is quite possible that I may still be considered AS but too high functioning for the trial. Or, they may say "we don't believe you're AS" in which case I will ask them for their reason, then ask them what is it that they think I do have (while I continue in my state of confusion), and then go back to the first clinician to discuss it (who had already expressed an interest in hearing of their results).

I have no problem with either diagnosis (having it or not), but it's just the uncertainty that's killing me.

Don't be too sure about that. I can spot even mild aspergers pretty quickly. If you saw some candid secret video taken of you, you'd see someone different than you appear to yourself. I've heard of some actors who can't stand to watch themselves in movies because of that. "That's what I look like?!" "That's what I sound like?!" "That's how I walk?!" etc. It's a whole different ball game when you're an outside observer.
