This article just struck me as very sad and relatable, so I thought I would share it

There was another WP thread about this poigant story a year or two ago.

I guess they still havent sent a boat to check out the whale in person ( havent read your link yet). Some have suggested that the whale might be deaf and cant hear his species' calls so (like a deaf human) he hasnt learned proper whalespeak.

Yes, the whale is like us and I can surely relate. Probably it's worse for it because it doesn't even have fellow disabled whales at all. I wonder how its mental and physical health is. It's been living for such a long time. So it must have found some way to manage. Still it's very sad.

I think we can all relate to this.

I wonder if they have ever tried to communicate with her. I mean, human to whale, the way we can with dolphins and such, gestures and things. She stays mostly in the same area, so she'd be a great subject for observation. And it'd give her something to do.

I don't think she has the whale equivalent of Asperger's; it's more like a speech impediment. Still, whales are rather social creatures, and I don't think it is far-fetched to say she might truly be lonely.

I wonder if they should try recording the song and rebroadcasting it at a lower frequency?
