Would you rather work with animals or people?
When I have to go back to work (and am well enough) I would prefer to work with animals rather than humans. Animals are more humane. I have lost my faith in the human race to the point where it can no longer be restored and wish to stay as far away from them as possible.
Whilst humans have knocked me around and rejected me for things I have not even done, animals will often adopt me or approach me..even those who won't approach others.
With the exception of the jack russel that bit me as a child animals are very loving and affectionate creatures. Human beings are not, they are too predatory. The human race is not as evolved as other species, despite the fact that we think we are superior. The human race is still in its infancy and is still barbaric. Far more barbaric than nature itself can be.
Nature has always been kind to me...I have always had warmth, food and anything else I needed to survive even though in the eyes of society I come from a poor socioeconomic background.
Animals have always been accepting of me whereas other humans have not.
With very rare exceptions, human beings and society are nothing but cruel, cold, unfeeling, selfish and obsessed with its own ego at the expense of kindness, love, friendliness, understanding and so on.
They care more for their own gain and their own god damned ego than they do the the welfare of others or the planet we live on.
The human ego has much to answer for and the concept should be abolished.

I agree totally with you Bumble. IMHO humanity is not merely in its infancy, but rather a failed experiment that should be terminated with extreme prejudice. I identify the major human failing as an almost total lack of ethics. Everything else stems from that.

Animals as well. I can understand them better and get along with them well. My wife and I have worked with a few rescue organizations, but left them due to issues dealing with her GAD and social phobia, so we work vigilante now
. Since we met we've fostered about 20 dogs (including puppies), volunteered at fundraisers and spay/neuter clinics, and adopted 4 dogs and 2 cats.
Chidori was our first adoption from a lady who couldn't keep her because she was forced to move apartments, she is a blonde Jack Russle/Chihuahua mix and is very loving, but doesn't like women much, she was also fed only people food and had to adjust to dog food. Our second and third were chocolate Chihuahuas, Hope and Faith, that were rescued from a breeder and had no human socialization whatsoever, and lived in tiny cages for 4 years+, they have hardly any teeth at all and are now starting to be more social with humans. The fourth adoption was Maria, a calico tabby, who was pregnant at the time despite not appearing so, she was emaciated and our old neighbors were "sic"ing their dogs on her. The fifth was Rory, our chocolate red-nosed Pitbull, he was on death row at a shelter from an abuse case and left to starve on a chain, he is a big goofball and has major seperation anxiety so we can't leave him at home till we can get a welded wire steel kennel with a top on it, he chewed holes in the aluminum mesh kennel we have. The sixth is "Ninja Wolf" but we call him Wolfie, he is a large longhaired cat with a gray coat and white underbelly, and he is very sneaky, he was also from a case of someone having to move appartments. Happily, all of our pets get along with one another and are not animal or food aggressive. I love them, but they are more of my wife's interest and tend to leave me without "me" time and cause interruptions, which tends to cause problems in other parts of my life.

I've worked with animals before and didn't like it. I was a vet tech. I got filthy and even after I came home and showered I still smelled like dog. I got scratched by both dogs and cats when I was holding them for the vet, and sometimes when getting them out of a carrier. That isn't because of anything I did, it's because they are afraid at the vets office. Also, worms gross me out. If I had had to clean the kennels I don't think I would have stayed, but I enjoyed it enough to stay for a while. Trying to hold a dog still while the vet sticks a fecal loop up its butt or expresses the anal glands is not always easy. Some dogs get still but others jump. Cats always try and claw, especially when they get shots or have almost anything at all done to them by the vet.
People are usually ok to work with, but lots of times I would rather be doing something that I don't need someone else for. I would choose alone, but if I had to choose between people and animals, I'd pick people.

Being a carny isn't amazing. Anybody can be a carny, or could back then before background checks, although mine was clean. I worked at the carnival because I went with a friend whose parents worked there. They were carnies for several generations on one side. I did that because I wanted to, and enjoyed the extra money (back when I had a concept of extra money lol) I was a vet tech because the first Gulf War was on and construction had come to a halt and my husband the electrician couldn't find work so I did. I supported us and he stayed home with our son. We didn't have extra money then lol

When i was ten years younger or so i worked for a vets office.
As Vet Tech and also help take care of boarding animals.
This lasted a year mainly with me taking care of grooming and boarders.
I would NOT suggest this job for certain people on the spectrum who may have absence seizures, any sort of seizures,
or bad attention spans.
You have to really be focused. The vet was constantly yelling at me and she called me "flighty" since i was a lil out there. However
things can be a matter of life or death so one cannot afford to be "out there" at all.
I was waiting for the vet in one of the appt rooms to come back in while a small kitten was on the table making repetitive neck movements which i got yelled at for not yelling for the vet as the kitten was having seizures. So while i am absence seizure, the kitten is having a serious one. I felt so bad about it, i love animals. The vet is awesome and saved it, even after i left that job, i took all my animals to her.
It's just a lot of pressure to have on someone within certain levels of the spectrum.
There are also times you have to be on your toes, you have to be focused.
I was lucky the vet also did grooming and boarding as i could take care of those type things.
Another thing is i would get upset when putting animals to sleep and the vet techs aren't supposed to get emotional in front of their owners. So the dr let me take care of boarding animals and help with grooming in the back =)
Worms, parasites, there are various types of things that you will come across working for the vet, it is true.
Having a hold on the dogs was easy for me, however i refuse to hold cats by the scruff as i'm always afraid it hurts them.
Various holds in order for the vet to get a vein for blood work were okay.
There's a lot of procedure to memorize especially if you are assisting the vet with surgeries.
Things are autoclaved and sterilized...
Also you have to learn how to read poop samples to detect worms and parasites with an electron microscope and you must prepare the slide for the poop sample.. that was actually fun. (the microscope)

I love animals but I also worked in a vet clinic but I failed miserably and was about to be fired -was told they weren't happy and I was miserable so I quit after a little over a month.
It's a sensory hell. The smells of the antiseptic and cleansers and formaldehyde were intolerable;e and made me nauseous, and the poop and the vomit. Also the noise of all the barking dogs was scary at times. There are many procedures as you said and I kept making mistakes with the cleaning and didn't get my work done on time. Also what you said about watching animals being put to sleep...it was so sad. This one woman put her dog to sleep just because she was moving in with her boyfriend and he didn't want the dog.

And there goes another thing I dreamt of. (of course I couldn't anyway due to allergies but I was thinking if there was a vet's office that specialised in reptiles, then it'd be perfect).
