What do I do?

After extensive research about AS over the last few months I am positive that it is the explanation behind me/my oddness for my entire life so far and ever since I was young(younger, I am soon to be 18)...

I brought it up to my mother and she disagreed with this. Then, she decided to be somewhat sympathetic, then a little later she decided to strongly oppose it.
(and when I've mentioned it she brought up people with severe autism that will always need to live with family or in an adult home. She is not understanding that people with AS can function on their own...)

Then at the doctor she brought it up (in a way that sounded very condescending).
After this I looked up about bringing it up to the doctor or questioning/discussing it with them.

My doctor:
- Disagrees with me (from the breif "she has been researching AS" that my mom said)
- Her words "Oh, no! you are too smart!"
- Then she sort of stumbled on her words a little, then said "You are far too connected"
- It is uncomfortable, but I can force myself to "be polite" and stare someone in the face while they talk to me... And that is the bases for why she disagreed with me...
- In the end she decided "I don't believe you have AS in any way; I believe that you are just an individual with very high Anxiety and ADD"

I still want to be tested/diagnosed.
I want to be tested for understanding. I imagine that knowing that there is a reason for all this would be quite liberating. (I don't know how to word this without it sounding bad - instead of it just being that I am socially hindered/stupid/an a$$hole/incapable of understanding people/my weird tics/etc.)
I want to be able to understand more about myself, to be able to set reasonable goals for myself(and probably with a boss if I ever get a job...), and to know other people like me. (well, people similar to me. I am not sure that I would get along with myself! haha)

All I can think of is to basically write a paper?
EX: take a piece of an article, write how that applies to me. take the "Aspie Tests" and show my results, etc.

What should I do?

What exactly does AS stand for? I always confuse this...

Is AS = Aspergers

or AS=AutismSpectrum?

Since its been used in different contexts depending on who wrote it, how to tell difference?

I think writing would be a good idea. Write why you think you might have AS and link it to real life experiences, especially the difficulties you face. Add the results of Aspie test if you feel that's necessary as well. If your doctor still isn't willing to assess you, it's probably best if you try another doctor.
Hope this was helpful at all...

What kind of doctor was that?
Perhaps consult someone who actually has a clue.

Probably an "8", right?

I agree with greentea7. Definitely take the online tests, research all you can, and write out why/how you think you "match" aspects of AS. Bring this and the results to someone who's willing to listen to you.

Good luck. :)
