So ever since I was sixteen I have had a special interest in a particular town, I have never been to it but i know a lot about the history, etc. of the place. I have driven through it on a couple occasions. It is not that intriguing to most people but for some reason it is fascinating to me...I feel weird talking about it. Only my parents know about my interest. I feel alone in having a special interest that's a particular place. has anyone else had this happen?

I have two places that are special interests. One is a city and the other is a country. London is a special interest because that's the city where all my favourite bands of the 60s are from. Germany is a special interest because I was always siding with the Germans until I found out that my family origins started in Britain. I started siding with the Germans again last January. I don't feel any need to wear my family name anymore. I haven't since last January. I just want to be myself from now on, even though my mum's not too fond of that.

I noticed the name of the town where I live now when I was first looking at this whole area, but finding my place here seemed quite unlikely before a string of coincidences. Perhaps "your" town is where you will move, or where you spent a past life.
I don't think a geographic special interest is an odd category. I really startled someone by knowing the spelling of their home town one time, but it was just because I like maps.

i was never attached to it before i went there, but after going to and returning from zagreb in december, i have an intense desire to return, far stronger than any other place i have been.

maybe it was the romantic (to me) circumstances of my going there, or the fact that it was new, but it could qualify as a special interest....OP, i see no way that having a place as a special interest is unusual.

in the past, i had a deep attachment to a park in town. it was not overly beautiful or anything like that, but i had been there a few times with one person that i was incredibly attached/attracted to, for years...and that made the park much more pleasant to be in. i felt like, by being there, i was closer to her.

it'd be interesting to know why you are so attached to this town.

I have always been interested in one country or another as long as I could remember and studied it in depth.

I can relate to having an interest in a special place. After getting into Harry Potter, I wanted to go see London. The Little House books sparked an interest in De Smet, SD and other places in the books. I could also name a handful of other places that became special interests.

I have always had an interest in researching the countries, and cities within those countries, because of a person I was interested in at the time. Denis Istomin inspired me to do research on Orenburg, Russia (his birthplace), Tashkent, Uzbekistan (where he grew up and began to play tennis) and Moscow (his current residence).
