When I was younger I didn't have the luxury of a stable loving family or loving home to nurture me. In essence, I was thrown to the wolves at an early age. Despite my AS, I had to fend for myself. I didn't have a choice. Of course it was rough. It still is, but after years and years of trying this alone, I guess I have some kind of handle on it.

I see. Your situation has clearly been a lot worse.

Can you say you enjoy adult-life and its responsibilities?

Enjoy it? No! It's kind of sad, but I'm looking forward to being in a nursing home type of setting where other people take care of me, remind me to take my pills, etc. What I do like now is the freedom I have to go to the store or the movies, visit restaurants, see the occasional concert, buy beer, etc. I don't have all the responsibilities of "normal" people (mortgage, marriage, kids, house, 401(k) plans, etc) but I still have to work and pay the rent. It's either that or be homeless.

What about you? Are you enjoying adult life and its responsibilities?

I am 23 and still live with my family. I've lived alone since I was 17, but found I had to move back with my family because of financial problems. I lost my car, apartment, and dropped out of college. Giving up is not a option. I am almost back on the right track as I found a high paying job. I just have lots of bills to pay before I can move out and buy a car and rent a apartment. I also want to go back to school. Life is rather tough now but the road is getting better. My point is it will be hard in the beginning but life gets better as long as you work hard to earn it. I can only hope to learn from my mistakes.
