I know their is some overlap between ADHD and ASD, so has anyone here taken the TOVA test to see if you might have ADHD?

I did a research review on TOVA a while back... Across 3 studies with similar prerequisites, 62.5% of participants diagnosed only with Asperger's came up with TOVA results suggesting ADHD, compared to just 25% of participants with no diagnosis.

There is more than one way to interpret this. However, it seems likely that for people with ASD, there is a possibility that ADHD may be incorrectly suggested, perhaps due to overlapping symptoms.

I decided to bump this because I didn't get any answers last time. Was suddenly curious again. Seems strange that not a single person here was given this very common test for ADHD. It is probably the most common test for diagnosing ADHD.

I came close to maxing out impulsiveness, but I was too hyperfocused for the inattentive part to be accurate.

As far as TOVA being used to diagnose ADHD, it really shouldn't be. There is no test more reliable than a clinician's judgment for diagnosing ADHD.

As far as I know the TOVA test is used along with a Clinicians judgement, but out of all of the various test it is still considered the most accurate and is still in high use

I'm just passing along what I have heard from a clinician who specializes in ADHD.

Edited:

You're not wrong, though. Sorry about being a bit stubborn.

Heh, my last name ends with "tova" so maybe I should take the TOVA test. Sorry, just had to.

I don't have ADHD for sure and I stand firm with this position. I don't think there is any point in me taking tests for a condition I have been told by many I don't have.

Likely ADHD instead of what I've been diagnosed with before.

I've been meaning to take the TOVA test, but I've been too distracted to get around to it.

Actually if that test was given to me, along with the bazillion other tests I was given, I didn't know the name of it. I was diagnosed as ADHD though, however they went about it.

TOVA is a fairly long test (~20 minutes) where a screen flashes things at you and you are supposed to press a button in response. One half of the test is to test inattention, the other half is to test impulsiveness and self-regulation.

I think my brother got that test, but the clinician made it take longer than it should have taken. He was a quack who wanted to diagnose everyone with ADHD. (He claimed the presence of Stroop interference indicated ADHD. While ADHD people have more severe Stroop interference on average, anyone who can read will show Stroop interference.)

I've taken it but didn't know what it was called :D So count me in with the aspies getting ADHD-results there (and probably not false positive).
