I can't find any research with adults, it's all based around children.

Short of Temple Grandin's squeeze machine, there is very little information related to pressure vests in adults.

Anybody have any experience? I know that I love deep tissue massage, and my wife can usually put me to sleep by simply putting pressure on certain places of my back.

Yes.

I like snug fitting t-shirts, sleep with a heavier pillow on my chest vs. beneath my head, and am very comfortable zipping into my very snug fitting PFD or impact vest for water sports. Knowing about these ASD traits, it all makes perfect sense to me as to why, as well as why other ASD family & friends like many similar things.

A friend of my sisters recently made a weighted blanket for her son. I'm not sure what the results have been, but I'd imagine it's comforting for him.

A local 24yo woman who works with autistic kids has invented this as a non-weighted pressure vest solution in order to avoid the problems weight can cause with posture and comfort, especially in kids:

http://www.vancouversun.com/health/Vanc ... story.html

Here's her company's website w/ vest available in kids sizes as well as adult sizes for $395cdn http://snugvest.com/

I've never actually worn it for anything but it's intended protective equipment use for water sports, but after reading about the snugvest I did wonder how it might feel to wear my impact vest for a day - especially since I do find it very comfortable to wear while on the water. It would definitely be a lot warmer/insulating option than an inflatable vest, that's for sure.. but they can be had on sale for ~$70 vs. $395. Here's a google image search result for impact vest. You could always go to a sporting goods store that sells PFD's & more specifically the less bulky Impact Vests and try some on until you find one that hugs you juuuuust right and has a slim enough profile to wear under a hoody or jacket etc, as I've wondered what it'd be like to do so myself. Hmmm, maybe I'll try it out some day while hanging around the house and see.

I do not have a vest with me, but having a heavy cat on me, or better my weighted blanket can calm me down when I am overstimulated and anxious. The blanket also helps me sleep.

Have you tried any compression clothes?

Under Armor is to expensive for me. I picked up some Starter brand ones from Walmart.

I had never heard of the weighted blanket.

As soon as I heard of it I started researching.

I used to be a "'tween the wall and bed" sleeper like a lot of people.

I will be ordering some poly pellets, and digging out some material to make up a weighted blanket!

I can't freaking wait!! !

That is totally awesome!

I hope you find great success. It has really helped me. I have also seen some that are smaller and fit like a pad in the lap for when you are sitting and doing something.

Im exactly the opposite, a weighted vest would drive me batty, the heat sensation and the pressure would make me ache and hurt,, but i have seen them used with kidssuccessfully,, it would be to much tactile sensation for me,, i suspect,, but i do like light blankets and fairly lose clothing, i hate tight clothing.

I can handle my cat on me for afew minutes but the dog when she snuggles makes my stomach ace,,and i get sick to my stomach,, I seem to have tactile issues big time,

I've yet to find something on the market that is heavy enough and applies pressure to the areas on my torso I want pressure to be applied to. The only thing that is effective for me is my body armor (I have several FlaK vests and bulletproof vests, all of which feel different). My German Splitterschutzweste tends to have more weight around the upper back and chest and above the shoulders, with moderate pressure along the sides, while my PASGT vest (pictured, in conjunction with that hideous foot of mine) fits tightly around my sides and the center of my chest and back. My Canadian FPV (not the current pattern, as that is still government property) fits like a combination of the others, which is nice when I need overall pressure/weight. My others are more for concealable use for if I'm in a situation where wearing something *a little more obvious* would be inappropriate (such as being in public).
I cannot sleep unless I've had my vest on for at least 30 minutes prior to retiring to my sleeping quarters. I also find that when I need to remain intensely focused on something, it helps to have one on.

I have to say that I gave this thought last night at work. I am a vet tech and routinely have to wear a lead apron when taking radiographs.

Just having the lead on is more comfortable, and now I realize that there are times that I put the lead on to take some films, then wear it around for quite a while afterward. The only unfortunate part is that it makes me sweat.

I thought I was the only person in the world who LOVES wearing my fall arrest harness or PFD at every opportunity. No wonder my hobby is a hockey goalie! I would jump at a job that required wearing say a Kevlar vest like security because I love the feeling of it.

I recently got a weighted blanket for my birthday and I LOVE it. I have not slept this well since...well, ever, I don't think. It's great for relieving my anxiety. The other day I went to the store to get some new pants, and it was really loud and I had to walk through the make up section (ie, SUPER smelly) and when I got home was a stimming mess. Got under my blanket and ahhhhhhhh. Much better :)

This thread now has me wondering if my older brother gets benefits he doesn't even realize from wearing his govt issued bpv at work all the time. He has added weight and protection w/ some US issue trama plates inserted into the pockets the CDN vests are made with, but not issued with.

Pretty sure its now illegal to buy bpv's here due to a recent law change because of so many gangsters wearing them and getting into more and more brazen public daylight shootouts. Not sure if people can still buy them if they go through a background check or not. Either way, they're not cheap. ($2kish)

I wonder what a weighted vest for working out/fitness would feel like? Hmmm. Probably not so great, I'd imagine, as they're not as snug and comfortably fitting.. But they are only $60-100.

Most of my body armor fell into that same price category, with the exception of my concealable vests which cost about $350 and up (new).
