I've found people use various coping skills to move past unpleasant emotions. I find myself varying between distraction and dwelling on trying to figure out the source. I'm not sure if either is very productive! What do you do when you have to face emotions? Do you use any specific techniques?

Well, like a lot of Aspies, my strongest emotion is anxiety. Usually a sudden onset. And like you said, barring a quick fix with Xanax, distraction helps. Keeping busy with something. Just typing away in a forum like this one helps a lot.

Do more of what makes you happier.

This depends from the emotion I'm feeling.
If it's anger, I'll probably just scream or kick and punch things.
If it's sadness, it will probably become anger sooner or later. I hardly ever feel really sad, and when I do it usually develops into anger.
If it's happiness, I may jump around and laugh and smile if it's real happiness; if it's shallow happiness (the one I usually feel) I'll do nothing.
