For the longest time I have never thought about which eye I concentrate on while talking to someone in plain conversation. I was talking to someone the other day and while we were talking my mind wandered and I thought about this. From that moment I have been unable to make permanent eye contact, and when I do, find myself looking at one eye or the other. I was just wondering if anybody else concentrates on just one eye, or both, or am I just going insane? I feel like ever since I have been trying to focus on both eyes, I have been getting weird responses from people and my conversations have become shorter in a sense. I'm starting to think other people notice when I just concentrate on one eye. I have no idea what to do about this dilemma.

Personally, the one that looks like a mouth. It is natural for both humans and domestic dogs to look at the left eye.

I don't look at eyes (unless they are not looking at me, or I feel very close to that person). I look at mouths. They tell a lot more.

I do not look at the eyes at all if I can avoid it. I look at their mouths.

i typically look at the "third eye", the spot where the nosebone connects to the skull.
this is less noticable as not-eyecontact then looking at the mouth.

I let my vision rest on numerous places. Right eye. Look away. Left eye. Mouth. Look away. Left eye. Right eye. Mouth. Look away.

I look away, or at the floor a lot. I'll occasionally glance up so the other person knows I am paying attention. If it's someone I'm very comfortable with, then it's probably more along the lines of a full on stare.

Just don't look at the third eye, or NT's will punch you.

Both of them. How can I look at one and not the other? They're right beside each other!

I look at their mouths or throats. If I'm feeling ambitious or brave I'll look at their nose or the bridge of their nose.

I don't look in people's eyes when I'm talking to them, because I don't think it's an important thing.
I don't seem to share the feelings that "it's too intense", or that "it's embarrassing", or "uncomfortable" like most people here do.
I just can't understand why it's so important.
What's the difference between looking at someone's eyes and looking to something else, or to nothing at all, when they're talking? There is no difference to me.
And then, how am I supposed to focus on what they're saying if I must pay attention to their pupils?

Its only been in the last few years that ive started looking at peoples faces when they are talking to me. I tend to look at their mouth but really need to stop by his as it really gets on my nerves when people kind of lip-sync what you are saying grrrrr.

If I don't catch myself, I'm usually looking at people's mouths, nose, beards, earrings, hair, and in the case of women, their boobs. Not because I'm being a pervert, but because of the fact that I have a hard time with eye contact. My eyes wander all over the place and well...let's just say the results have been rather hilarious.
I have to usually force myself to make eye-contact, then I'm constantly shifting between the left and right eye. But I did it when I blink so it's less noticeable. At least, I think it's less noticeable. :/
