I know most Aspies don't like to be touched. But for me, being touched is something that I've for the most part been oblivious to. There's been many times in crowded places that someone has reacted negatively to me standing to close to them as if they were just an inanimate object like a support beam.

And I've always been kind of half aware of people patting me on the back or shoulder and stuff like that. Like they weren't really there.

Hugging was really only a problem in that I didn't have the urge to hug back. I didn't mind getting the hug, I just didn't have the desire to reciprocate.

The only time I ever remember recoiling at being touched is when I was in meltdown mode. Then it was "leave me alone!!".

Anyone else have this type of obliviousness regarding casual psyical contact from others?

Is there anything about me that is not correlating with Asperger...

Slowly freakin me out. This "not wanting to hug" thing also is a major reason for my bad relationship with my mother, I think.

<--- Doesn't like to hug, doesn't like to be hugged. Can't say much for being touched or shaking hands, either.

The only problem I have with shaking hands is that I often fumble it due to my dyspraxia. I'm surprised I haven't put someone's eye out yet :D

It depends on the day, my mood, the weather, what have you whether I mind it. I know a couple people who are "touchers" and it's no problem some days. Other days I would love a ten foot barrier around me. A soundproof one at that.

Well, I definitely don't like being poked or tapped by people when they're talking to me to gain my attention, because it disrupts my secondary train of thought while they're yammering :)
