At work, I have difficulty filtering stuff out, and it's easier if I can get something to do the filtering for me. Like, I have a list of items for which I have to count attributes of some categories, but not others. So for each attribute I come across, I have to check the category and exclude from the count the categories that I'm not supposed to count and count those that are part of it. These tasks are always slow for me and annoying. If I can have something filter out the categories I am to exclude and show only the categories that I am supposed to count, then my work becomes a lot easier and faster.

I think this is related to slow processing speed. For example, when I was 12, I was tested on the Cancellation Task, where I was accurate but slow. I'm also somewhat slow on the Go/No go task per cognitivefun.net (though that's against avid task takers).

What about others here?

When I have to do that kind of thing, I usually use some kind of automated system to do it for me. Depending on the format of the list, that could be a macro or simple formula in Excel or a shell script or a small Python application for file lists or large volumes of text.

I have a lot of Executive Function problems in organizing and scheduling and I have to both a lot as I am often lead designer on large projects. The severity seems to come and go with other factors, so I have developed some effective strategies for some of these problems like filtering.

Unfortunately, there are other areas I just can't seem to find a good way of getting under control and I find that I am sometimes my own worst enemy because of it.
