Hey, can anyone tell me how to deal with out of control or destructive obsessions? Like when they consume your entire life, and you become completely incapable of enjoying or taking interest in anything else.

It's incredibly hard for me. They often distract me from my schoolwork. My obsessions aren't physically destructive, they're just very intense ones.

My obsessions take complete control over me. I don't know how to control it.

Get out there, and have fun. Stimulate your mind. Induldge in your senses. That's what I do.

I find that just having a live person or somebody on a forum to listen to me ramble on-and-on helps. Sometimes it gets too great for me to keep to myself, and I have to release it by droning on about it. I'm not really the one to ask, though, because I have yet to find a way to overcome my OCD and Aspie obsessions.

My obsessions used to be much stronger when I was younger. Now I indulge them mainly when I am by myself.

You have to try to replace it with another obsession. If you can manage to get your focus on something else, even for a little while, it might start to put things in perspective concerning the destructive obsession.

This is the ONLY solution I have found.

My solution was to focus on other things for a while, or try to burn myself out on one obsession very quickly.

I don't know. My obsessions are causing problems again, and I am just going to have to walk away from both every once in a while. Just get up and walk away. I find that if I allow myself a small bit of an obsession while focusing on something that has to get done usually yields positive results. For example, I am in 24 mode right now, and what I've had to do is set a timer and when the timer goes off, I stop 24 and focus on homework. Also, while I'm doing homework, I have the music from the show playing in the background so I'm not "quitting cold turkey."

I think you just have to find something that works for you and then just do it.

Don't control your obsessions, keep them to yourself.

WHAT IF "Stimulate your mind." is your obsession? then you would be at a lost.

for me this is true sometimes i need to un-stimulate my mind.
