I've already found research that amongst high-functioning people the ADOS-2 is only 77% reliable (or 23% unreliable!), I am looking for research discussing possible causes for variance/discrepancy between the two tools. Anecdotally obviously, masking behaviours could explain it, but I wanted some bone fide research evidence (where's Fnord when you need him :lmao:)

ADI-R is the parental questionnaire
ADOS-2 is the scoring on the subject's tests

Any help gratefully received.

ADOS is not really a questionnaire. It's a set of exercises intended to reveal autistic behaviors, perceptions, and traits.

I suspect that the 77% reliability is one reason the ADI-R is typically a part of the process. The two in tandem are the gold standard for identifying autism for research purposes.

Acknowledged, you are correct, and I knew it but had the word questionnaire in my head and once there it wouldn't shift!

My eldest daughter scored high on the ADI-R and has all the traits of Asperger's, I know she has it, but because she was very in control of herself (purposely as she is in denial) and is excellent at masking, they have decided she hasn't got AS (although admitted autistic behaviours) because of the ADOS-2. This is why I'm getting really into the nitty-gritty of it and want research evidence to show them.

Okay, yeah... they really shouldn't use the ADOS like that. It's supposed to play a major role but not be the final word. At the end of the day that's still the clinician's judgment.
