I've suspected for a few years that I may be an Aspie. I've come to the point that I want to get the ball rolling on getting a proper diagnosis. I live near North Bay Ontario. I'm a relatively new resident to Ontario and live in a small town, and do not have a doctor, period, let alone a family doctor. Getting a family doctor in this area is extremely difficult. In fact anything health wise in this area is a problem as far as finding good professionals.

The closest city to me is North Bay. Does anyone know how I can possibly get connected with good testing and support there? I'm at the point where I think I need to get the ball rolling in order to get assistance, and that is also something I know nothing about, and over-whelmed with.

Advice and direction would be greatly appreciated.

To see a specialist who can diagnose you with autism, you will need a referral from a general practitioner. So your first step is to find one who is open to working with people with these kinds of disorders. You'll probably have to go as far as Sudbury to see a specialist, if not Ottawa or Toronto. But it's worth it to find someone in this specialty.
If you get diagnosed with autism, in order to get assistance from ODSP, you will still need to show that you are made incapable of working. They don't assume it because you're autistic. Often it is co-morbids that qualify you for assistance.
Hope that helps and welcome.

Thanks for the answer, and the welcome. I joined a couple years back, but rarely post, so this has been on my mind for awhile. I am looking for more specific answers though at this point and actually would like to pursue this.

As far as getting on assistance, that's something I could put on the back burner. I've had lots of issues with employment my whole adult life and I do have other health issues, but getting a proper diagnosis in regards to being on the autistic spectrum is my main concern right now.

I am looking for specific places I can call and/or visit to get the ball rolling for now. For example, if anyone knows of any general practitioners or specialists (hopefully in the North Bay area) that I can follow through on. I would like to see if I can exhaust NB before considering Sudbury as I don't have the most reliable of vehicles.
