I've always had really bad handwriting....

When I read this comic - http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt112787.html

I was like, WOAH his handwriting looks like mine!

Well, you can see the rest.

Same here. So glad to now be working at a hospital with computer charting! I had to paper chart at my old job and got horrible cramps in my arm and hand from trying so hard to make my writing legible.

For the record, though, I can read your handwriting just fine! :)

This is my handwriting sample produced a couple of years ago, when I still had a cell phone:

I took calligraphy lessons just to make my handwriting look normal, and then Teh Interwebz came along and I no longer needed good cursive penmanship ... but my typing skills have improved considerably!

Verdandi -- It hurts for you to write, too? I hate writing for very long. It becomes so painful, and I can get hand cramps.

Something I've also wondered, do others hold their pencils strangely? I've often been told that they way I hold a pencil is strange.

Yes. The pain starts in my hand, moves up my arm, down my other arm, and then into my chest. I hate it. I was kind of surprised when I was looking up dysgraphia and found a description of that pain, and I think I do have dysgraphia. I still have some issues with accurate handwriting, although they're not as bad as they used to be.

I don't think I hold my writing utensils strangely. I went through a lot of handwriting tutelage in the first grade because I had serious trouble with letters that were like other letters reversed, upside down, or both. For that matter, I think my numbers only became fully legible in my 20s.

This article shows how I hold my writing utensils: http://drawsketch.about.com/od/learntod ... pencil.htm

I had trouble in school getting down cursive for some reason.

Also even when writing print, I'll write an "m" instead of an "n" by accident and have to erase the extra arch. I think this will happen if I'm writing something like "Beginning" and I'll start to write "Begiming".

I've done the same thing when I catch myself putting in a "w" instead of just a "v". It's like some kind of writing hiccup. I think it's more likely to happen when writing cursive.

I never learned how to write cursive entirely. There are some times when my natural print writing will include some cursive letters, but I don't know how to write entirely in cursive. Why learn? What is it for? I didn't get the point of it when I was in school, so I didn't learn.

Using the "typical" standards, my handwriting is rather bad. I write in cursive all the time - except for when it's "required" to print. I hate printing, and mine looks terrible to me - though others can read it. I admit that my cursive isn't the best, but it is the easiest writing method for me. My parents and family have been critical and harsh on my handwriting for essentially my whole life. They maintain that it's something that with enough work, dedication, and habit I can change. I tried for long periods of time at several points in my life, and it just never worked. This led them to think I was being lazy and complacent about a failing of mine. When I was about 11 or 12, I could, writing very slowly, produce slightly better handwriting, though I absolutely hated it and it looked so contrived and unlike me.

For some reason, most friends and professors never criticize my handwriting and seem to except it. I've even gotten some compliments on how interesting/unique it looks. One of my classmates said once that she thought it looked like a kind of art.

Count me in. I have to remember to print big for notes at work, because my boss can't read my penmanship otherwise.
