I get a lot of good information in this forum, but am very confused by the items in my subject.

Please explain. Are pictures, emoticons and videos considered healing?

I see a lot of pictures of people here and the use of emoticons throws me off. I am VERY awkward with pictures. I'm a reasonably good looking guy, but my head always tilts and I have to practice in front of a mirror to get the eyes looking more than a blank stare (it only works about 50% of the time).

Videos. I've tried to make videos for YouTube years ago which I tried to narrate or act. Regardless of the inflection I thought I used and the personality I tried to put in my face, it came off on video as relatively monotone and expressionless. After 20 takes, I was done. I posted it and had very little negative comments, but never tried to pursue communication in those ways again.

Emoticons. Ha! Really?

Not everything on this site is centered around healing and you can choose to use whatever features you find to be most useful.
No one here will judge you for not posting pictures/videos or using emoticons. Conversely, if you do choose to post an embarassing picture (look at mine in the Aspiest Picture thread...), you won't be judged or lauged at either (unless, of course, your goal is to ellicit laughter... but then I suppose we'd be laughing with you!).
Contrary to what I just said, though, I find that any kind of contact with supportive, thoughtful and like-minded individuals (such as those on this site) can have extraordinary therapeutic benefit!

I'm sorry if it came off as judgmental. I was just surprised. I think you have to be a certain point better than some (including myself) to post pictures and videos. The emoticons threw me for a loop. Maybe because I'm a bit of a curmudgeon.

Emoticons can be confusing. I've no idea what the smurf one means I posted above. Some are obvious when they are smiling, frowning, laughing or shocked. Some are best avoided as they cause confusion and different people interpret them differently - for example:  which some take to mean "looking at the above post" and other take to mean "derision of the above comments".

Bye for now. :nemo:
