unfortunately the latter is wearing out. I am dreading the day it breaks.
It's funny how much attachment we can have for a good coat.
My current jacket is only about three or four years old. It's my third main jacket since the early 1970s. I have had a few heavier duty ones that I wore when I had to, but for general everyday wear, only the three jackets.
I had one jacket that I got in the early 1970s that I wore into the mid 1980s.
When that jacket wore out, my mother gave me a jacket that my grandfather had bought in the mid 1960s but never wore. It was absolutely great and I wore it until I bought the current jacket. It was really raggedy by then.
One time in the late 1980s in the Houston suburb I lived in at the time, I stopped at a gas station for gas. While in the gas station, an old guy approached me and asked where I got the jacket because he wanted to go get another one like it. He was disappointed when I told him it was from the 1960s. He said that he had one like in the 1960s and wore it out and he wanted another just like it.
