I am self diagnosed with aspergers. I am unemployed again with a wife and son and no health insurance. I am considering looking into disability. The first stumbling block i an finding is getting diagnosed with out insurance. I live in the Kansas City missouri metro area. Any and all thought would be wonderful. Thanks...Aster

All I can tell you is to see if a diagnostician will accept cash in a "lockbox" account. Kinda like services on lay-a-way.

sometimes if you apply for disability, the social security admin will pay for an evaluation to see if you qualify. that might end with a diagnosis.

Is there no state or county social services agency around that offers free/low-cost health insurance? Also there may be religious agencies (such as Catholic Social Services) that offer free or low cost mental health sessions or give referrals.

Call the Rediscover hotline and tell them you're thinking about suicide. Jackson county, MO will pick up the counseling bill. Last time I was looking for a doctor experienced in ASD, there was one listed there on my insurance website. I can double check it in the a.m. Most people receiving counseling at rediscover don't have insurance, Jackson county pays the bill.
