and I feel nothing. My mom was all upset on the phone and I tried to relate but all I could say is the same randomly thrown in "I'm sorry" or "That sux". I really did not feel anything, and have never been connected to previous pets.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?

feeling aren't right or wrong. they just are. you can't manufacture them. you said the right things. that's all that can be expected. when my uncle I rarely saw died, I told my cousin I was sorry. I truly did not want her to feel pain. but I don't miss my uncle.

Usually I don't feel much when someone or a pet dies but sometimes I really do. I pay my condolences as you did but that's about it. Our feelings are just that; ours.

More than anything it was somewhat of a slap in the face reminder of my empathy issues. I either feel nothing or I feel everyone in the room :/
