Wondering what the prevalence and frequency of meltdowns amongst Aspies is....

I tend to have one every few months and 1 or 2 "significant" ones annually.

Is this an intrinsic part of Aspergers? What happens during your meltdowns? What strategies do you employ for dealing with them?

I used to have temper tantrums, but they weren't really related to sensory overload. I don't know if that counts or not, so I voted ">1 year ago."

My meltdowns last only one day, they never last an entire week.

I'm much the same, they completely wreck a single day, but once I've slept it's totally gone.

Yes. It depends on the circumstances.

I can't remember when I last had one so I put in the last year. That's the last time I remember having one when I had a boyfriend, now I'm with someone else and havne't had a meltdown yet.

During meltdowns, I'd scream or cry and hit or grab myself, even bite. Bang my head.

There are different kinds of meltdowns I don't know when I last had one. You can have one and not yell or scream or cry. I used to think that's what a meltdown was but that's one of them. I do not enjoy having them.

Yep, I have those. Generally, they involve me shouting or having a tantrum - and they're often made worse if people try to calm me down. The best course of action is really just to leave me be so that it burns itself out, but of course the natural instinct is for people to want to help, so it just escalates and I start to scream incoherently.

Define "meltdown". I still don't really understand how it's anything unique for Aspies.
