I learned about Asperger's about a year ago and immediately suspected that I may have it, but filed it away under "hypochondria."

After I saw the TV show "60 minutes" tonight about the famous man who can recall 22,000 digits of pi from memory, I was moved by how his outlook, demeanor and even his looks resemble mine.

So I came here, and now I think I should get diagnosed. My health insurance covers free "life consultation" phone calls and plain-old mental illness, I wonder what I should do about diagnosis?

So my story is, until about age 20 I had no way to relate to society. My first language is English, but it felt like foreign language I had memorized. Informal speech and dress were hard to follow, and kept changing on me.

Around age 8 I discovered computers. Unlike people, they were formal and kept letting me try over until I learned their rules, which never changed.

At 20 I took a Japanese language class at the local video store, and picked up most of the written language in about a year - nothing like the guy on TV who learned Icelandic in a week, but enough to make me wonder.

My job now is to program graphics for videogames. My more productive coworkers give off a similar vibe, though we all seem to cope.

One guy has a hard time looking people in the face, and another guy seems to have learned to look people in the face, but only with an empty stare. Several tend to rock back and forth during meetings.

It would give me some comfort to know that some of the "weird" I seem to be stuck with for life is a well-understood condition.

:D

Hehe... I know what country you are from now :P.

I also saw that show, except a full article on Catalyst. Research AS on Wikipedia and do some AS tests. This is a good one: http://www.rdos.net/eng/Aspie-quiz.php.
