I've recently- that is in the past year- became very aware of my special interests. I have noticed since that awareness kicked in that there's a pattern going on here. I get a new interest and the buzz that comes along with it then after a while it slowly starts to faid out. This comes as a problem for me because I begin to panic about the interest coming to an end and I cling to it, making every part of my life connected to the interest even if I don't want to. Then as the time goes by I begin to get days when I feel incredibly down and have no inspiration to do anything. I spend all my time focused on an interest so when it begins to fail I start to feel lost and without any form of purpose. I go through this period of depression and lack of self for a while until I find a new interest, at which point I begin to see my other problem.
I feel guilty when I lose an interest and down that I can't feel for that thing as I did before then after my new interest comes in I allow myself to care about the old one once more.
No one seems to know what to do for me and I don't know either! I am on anti depressants and have anxiety so things aren't made any easier but I'm litterally begging for some form of help, there must be someone who can offer a suggestion? Please!

eventually you will find an interest with legs on it, that will stick like glue to you. I know I did.

I had/have an intererst like that. I keep going back to it every now and then for short periods of time, it's just sometimes not practical to go into my own world like that or I'll just end up spending all my spare time playing Chess and watching strategy dvd's all day. Very time consuming and sadly not very social. I love it but realise I need another interest now that does include socializing diversely. I can be social in other ways sure, but it certainly seems like the best way. I do have poker for that but it's a ruthless game involving winning money from poor saps with no discipline so I don't expect to make many friends from it.

So to the OP yes I can relate to losing an interest in that way or not being able to persue an interest for practical purposes. Having more than one interest can stop me focusing on just one.. I'm not great at multi-tasking in that way and often move onto something else because the old one has wore out it's practical purpose. Maybe try to find ways to make your interests more practical such as they let you socialize, or it will be good for your career/schooling etc and find a way to integrate it into your life.
