Hi everyone, I'm new here, age 25, and female. I have an appointment scheduled with a neuropsychologist to be tested for AS. They informed me it will be an EIGHT HOUR appointment with a brief lunch break. My appointment is a month away, and now I can't stop thinking about what to expect. Can anyone give me some insight? Does it usually take so long for such testing? What kind of tests are administered?

Mine was 5 hours after a meeting talking about background information.

Types of things it included:

IQ testing
EQ/AQ
Personality Assessments
reading, spelling, arithmetic tests
Executive functioning tests (Trail Making and Connor's Continuous Performance test)
Matching emotions to pictures of faces
Matching emotions to voices
Matching voices to faces
Explaining whether stories of events people did were awkward or not, and why

And of course him watching what types of questions I asked of the multiple choice questions.

Yep, mine took 6hrs. The main advice I have for ya, is not to get too worked up. I felt a lot of anxiety before the assessment and absolutely 100% of it ended up being completely wasted energy. It went smoothly and I never once felt like I was out of my comfort zone. I'd say the 6hrs actually only felt like 2hrs. It went by VERY fast and I actually enjoyed quite a bit of the AS testing since, for me, it involved some story telling based on photos, using objects to tell a story and some art. Anyway, best of luck with yours and I hope it goes smoothly ;).

Jesus, mine took half an hour!

I wasn't actually "Tested" so much as scored on an index of aspie traits against a standard age-adjusted curve.

now I'm wondering if perhaps what I was just asked outright is usually judged indirectly through a bunch of other tests?

Thanks, everyone! You have all made me feel a little less anxious about it. Is it odd that I always want to know what to expect when I anticipate going into a new situation? Do any of you ever feel that way?

It's not odd to me. I always have to know what to expect, and get very anxious if I can't plan ahead. If I have to speak to someone, I have to practice the conversation beforehand, so it's difficult if I don't know what questions will be asked. I even try to find pictures of new places I need to go so I can visualise myself there and work out where the 'quiet' spots might be where I can get away if I need to.

I'm getting assessed on Thursday and most of the things that you enjoyed in the testing are things that I don't enjoy xD The art is fine, but my brain goes blank when it comes to telling made-up stories. I roleplay online, but it's based off of a series of books. There are rules to follow and guidelines. I'm not a spontaneous person.

Do they do playing with dolls or something of the sort, too? I used to play with beanie babies when I was younger but I found out babysitting 5 years ago that I can no longer do that. The psychologist's office had a dollhouse and I would play in it when I was young, but I remember being absolutely silent in front of the psychologist. Half the time was setting up the dollhouse to be just right. I was fine with animal beanie babies though. Weird.

I'll enjoy the concrete stuff, like the arithmetic. If my testing has that.
