...such as Tumblr, Facebook, ect.

Do you use them? Do you enjoy them? And do you think that they help you cope with your spectrum disorder?

I'm a Tumbler freak and I used to use Facebook but sometimes I find that they make me feel really alone. Tumblr is great for finding people who are supportive of your issues/quirks but sometimes it's almost too accepting. Like people are willing to accept you but they aren't going to help you improve, ect..

I used to use tumblr but the thing is my theme always changes lol And also I don't really have "theme" anymore. I'm just me. And I don't feel like I fit in anywhere on tumblr. Plus I'm just kind of over it. I do use facebook. But that's only thing I use.

I feel a site like this is beneficial, because it is generally welcoming and you communicate with a lot of like minded people. The interactions are pleasant for the most part.

Not all sites or forums are equal though. Some are extremely toxic filled primarily with people whose main aim is to troll as hard as they can and piss off as much people as possible. Not to mention cyber-bullying is a real thing and it does happen a lot.

I stay away from Facebook because I find drama can erupt in there and spill into real life pretty fast, so I'm not a member.

Leaving the bad stuff alone.....in general I find that socializing on-line is so much easier and comfortable. It does ease my social anxiety. I often have found that when I do get into an on-line community that I enjoy it sometimes has a benefit in real life. I guess it sometimes give me more confidence to communicate in general.

am a user of social networking, dont understand when seeing people go absolutely mental about how crap sites like facebook and twitter are, what the hell are they doing on them if they dont like them? is it a form of self harm or something?

am on facebook, but only have family/ex NAS support staff on mine, use it for finding out stuff and for organising visits with them-am not able to use phones because of lacking the verbal communication to do so and facebook allows us to get around this barrier, though they still have to arrange it with staff officialy,am able to feel a bit of independance with it.
am also on it to be part of a number of disability and animal groups but the same attention seeking trolls pop up on those; posting questions to the disability groups pretending to have severely disabled kids to gain pity off parents of genuinely severely disabled kids, sometimes am tempted to leave them because of how many fake accounts he owns to do this with, forums at least have better transparency.

am the owner of a new social network and still in the middle of getting funding to haul it onto paid hosting, its called team LD and was originaly a secure social network for those of us who have intelectual disability, because of a acute case of long term cyber bullying that a ex regular member here did, many of us with ID have been cyber bullied but lack the capacity to know what to do and how to do it-unfortunately in own case it went on for so long it caused multiple severe mental illness including severe paranoid schizophrenia though technicaly the LD pysch of mine believes its how autism has manifested itself due to arrousal level becoming to high.
there is a site for us that charges five pound per year but those of us who live in full time care cant afford it and most people joining it are mates of each other from special olympics clubs or special colleges and they dont allow anyone into their inner circles.
but...have been asked by several small autism organisations if they coud hook up with team LD,so its also for people with autism or any other developmental disability.
its just a PITA because its all happening rather slowly but still need to finish off the site and get fellow buddy at the council/the ASD awareness co ordinator to call around as she is sorting out a load of stuff including the funding and shes also got the council to permenently advertise the site.

I am on facebook and have 23 friends on there.
In the beginning I had like 50, because people I did not know were inviting me to befriend them (via other people) and I did, but then defriended people again.
The 23 people are people I have seen at least once, some familymembers, 2 therapists among them.
But I am not very active on it.
I like to read autism discussion page from Bill Nelson on facebook.
Only a pity that his writings often refer to only children on the spectrum (not always though) and most people replying are parents of children on the spectrum.

...it used to be open to read for everyone, now it seems you have to be registered (?)...

I only have my family members on my Facebook, too. I don't even know why people bother to friend complete strangers. I've accepted before, most don't talk to you anyways.

I feel like this is this website that has helped me cope with my diagnosis. I am very glad I joined it.
I do have Facebook and Instagram. I do use them for my friends that I know personally. Sometimes they are fun, but sometimes they can be really boring if nothing interesting is going on.

I don't know what Tumblr is. I started out with social networking on MySpace, about 5 years or so ago when MySpace was the thing everybody had. Before FB got big. My kids all had one, and so did their friends, and they talked me into making one and friended me, and their friends that I knew friended me. It was fun, and then people started leaving for FB, and I didn't want to because I made one but it looked totally different and I don't like it when anything on my internet ever changes anything about itself, especially appearance. Eventually I had to go to FB and abandon MySpace because nobody was on it anymore.

I have about 250 friends or so. My kids, their friends, people I know in real life around here, people I went to school with, people from WP, friends of friends who send a friend request when I comment on a mutual friend's status that they like, people I've met and started talking to on comment threads on pages, people who I've met on the internet and asked if I could friend them, and lately people I used to work with that I looked up but that went strange because I thought I found this Indian guy I used to work with and he accepted my request and when we chatted I found out it wasn't him. He said we can stay friends and talk sometimes anyway and I said ok. Then his friends friended me and now I have about 15 guys in India that I don't even know who are my friends. They say hello, we chat for a minute or two sometimes, asking each other questions about the other's country and life and customs, etc. We probably chat like that because we are both comfortable, they are all young guys, in their early 20's like my oldest son and I'm the age of their mother. So it's obviously just friendship and chatting.

I really like FB and I've met some people from around town on there through other people who I've gotten to be good friends with in real life. In fact, my very best friend in the world is someone I met that way.

I do good with FB because I enjoy chatting and I'll just type anything, whatever is on my mind (as you all know much too well here )and I like to make a joke or I'll "like" a picture they put up or just say (((hugs))) when they are having a bad day. While I do enjoy social interaction face to face, I don't like it all the time. I much prefer to do it this way. I can have the social interaction without actually having to go to a lot of trouble like going somewhere or having people over or putting on something other than night clothes. It's also more casual, not as intense or pressured. I don't really have to keep going with a conversation if I don't know what to say, because in chat people sometimes take 10 minutes to answer a chat message. I can also have long and personal conversations with people through chat as well. I've had some very good conversations with people in several different countries who I have met and become friends with, mainly from here. It's more of a convenience thing for both. I can send them a message if I want to talk or just say hey and if they are busy they don't answer it right then, they answer it when it's convenient, unlike calling someone on the phone where they have to stop what they are doing right then to talk.

It's really the perfect medium for me I think. I love it. I don't think I could stand anywhere near that much social interaction if it were face to face or even on the phone.

I dont use them. What would i use them for for ?. Not like i have friends lol.

I doubt it would use them even if i had friends. I dont have this urge to know what people are doing every min of every day, and i certainly dont have any need to share whatever small thing i do.

I use Facebook but I don't like it. I have 5 friends on it and know 4 of them in real life. I mostly just have it to communicate with real life friends that live far away. One talked me into getting it.

I used to play the Facebook games but I quit for 3 reasons. I'm not going to pay real money to get stuff, I'm not going to harass my friends who aren't even interested in those games to get stuff, and recently I found out that some of the games I used to play shut down. If I had spent real money on them it would have been wasted.

I have facebook, tumblr and deviantART.

I hardly ever use facebook.
I never use tumbrl.
I use deviantART to post my works, not to socialize.

I don't get it when people say that socializing on the web is easier. It is not for me.

How is it possible that you are good at socializing on the web but not IRL?

Whatever, I am neither interested in making friends through the web.

To me it's a bit easier with sites like this because it's not in real time so I have all the time I need to think about what I'm going to post and it doesn't seem so strange if I'm very slow to respond or don't respond at all.

Still, I can't understand how it is supposed to be easier.

I never think about "what I am going to post", I just post what I would say in a conversation IRL, aka what comes to my mind first.
I may be slow at responding, or quick, or I may not respond at all, just like it is IRL.
I can't understand what I should or should not say IRL; same is on the web.

But, as I said in the other post, I'm not really interested in interaction on the web, because I consider it as boring as interaction IRL.

This is the main reason why I don't play RPGs online.
If I played those games, I would be supposed to interact with people on the web to play, ask questions on forums if I had a problem, and add other people to my "friend list" in the game.

All this seems soooo boring and I just prefer playing games without other people.

I hardly use my Facebook account. Whenever I post something, most people usually criticize me and I don't like that, therefore I don't see the point of using social media.
