Who here is or was in a segregated classroom or school for special ed? I was and I remember hating it, but it was the only setting I could function in for a long time.

was in a special school up to nineteen ninty nine-was fifteen at the time and expelled due to behaviors.
never found another placement,no one ever even phoned mum or dad to find out why was not registered in any form of education, ridiculous because in this day and age,if a kid is away from school for a day they have the whole nation of educational welfare officers after them, any longer and the county court wants their mothers ass.

in own case, woud not be anywhere near the same level of functioning if it hadnt been for the teachers at special school, they operated more like a family with us rather than sterile authority.
if hadnt been expelled at fifteen woud not have the computer and linux ability that have today, and woud not be so helpful to other people, had used the computer day and night until was removed from the home into a LD institution at nineteen and the bstards woudnt allow an internet connection.

I was put only in a special PE class and only in 7th grade.

There were mostly kids with Down's syndrome there and a few with other disorders.

I was put there because according to my PE teacher I had a severe lack of motor coordination and I didn't have any interest in sport activities (expecially the group activities). I was very withdrawn back then so they thought that maybe putting me with kids with other disbilities would have made it easier for me to socialize and take part in group activities.
I was also chosen for some art works to do with kids with Down's (I had alredy done this in 6th grade).
It was a sort of creative art laboratory, where you had to draw, paint, or create with clay.
I was the most high-functioning there, therefore the teachers would let me (with their help) guide the work.
It wasn't difficult because the other kids listened to what I said and they seemed to like me.
They let me go there once a week or for special occasions like the days before Christmas and Easter.
I did socialize with some kids with Down's and I also partecipated in some group sport activities.

The activity was abandoned when I was in 8th grade though because the teacher who organized everything wasn't there anymore.

I was in some special ed classes. That's where they put all of the people who have mental illness to the point it effects their school work, and other people having troubles that they don't know what else to do with. It helped me in some ways, like having less stress throughout the day, but as far as learning what the "normal" kids were, no, we did work that other teenagers did years before. I'm guessing it was to lighten the load we had on our shoulders, from our head troubles, which can be quite a heavy load to carry. It just didn't help me prepare very well much later on in life outside of school. It is in my opinion that public schools here generally speaking, do not have the tools or use the proper tools they have, to treat people with some serious disabilities so they can learn what normal people in the same school learn. It is easy to throw someone who has something wrong with them in special ed and teach them the basics, but advanced skills, not so much apparently. Well at least they tried though, better than nothing.

Yes, 4th-8th grade in a EBD classroom (part days, percentage differed from grade to grade). Now would be considered a bad placement for a ASD child, but that was not recognized back then. Putting me in a classroom of bullies did not help matters out at all.

I think for the first 10 or so years of my schooling I was in some form of special ed class. I remember finding this annoying and embarrassing.
Sometimes people would pick on you for it. Mostly they felt pity.

Nope. Though I didn't really have any problems with school. I just followed instructions, did the work, and read when I was done (this mostly :D ). I always had top marks. But then again, I grew up in a small area, and my parents don't "believe" in any sort of non-physical disorders. So that might be why.

The only problem I ever had were verbal tests. When the teacher asked questions out loud. I could hardly remember the question so I always did poorly

They put me in special ed classes for some of my classes in sixth grade. I was in an all day special ed class in seventh and eighth grade in two different schools. I was in a a day treatment program at a mental hospital for ninth grade, another special school that summer, and then a reform school for tenth grade. When I got out I was 16 and quit school.

Nope. There was talk of it, I think when I was 11 just after starting secondary (high school) school.

No, I was never considered big enough to be put in special ed completely since I'm only mild, I have however received some teachers aid on and off throughout the years, however I sometimes got paranoid that other kids would pick up on something so I use to cancel it.
