I applied for disability in Oct. 2011. At that time I provided my local SSA office with originals of my citizenship certificate and social security card. In the nearly 2 years of this application process not once did they bring up my citizenship status or request additional documents to that end. According to their guidelines, showing an original citizenship certificate constitutes proof of citizenship. I was approved for disability by an administrative law judge then received a notice from SSA saying I am denied because I didn't provide information they asked for. I called SSA only to find out that they requested verification from the department of homeland security and have not received a reply. What really pisses me off is that they entered into the system that I am denied due to a failure to comply with their request for information. I brought proof as per the SSA guidelines and now I am at risk of losing benefits because they failed to complete their internal verification. How the hell am I supposed to further prove to the SSA that I am a citizen when they already have my citizenship certificate and the social security card they issued to me as part of my citizenship? In 2 years not one of those SOBs could pick up the phone and call DHS for verification and somehow that is my fault. When it came to paying taxes I was always a citizen, now that I ask for help my rights as a citizen are taken away. I have been a US citizen for 35 years BTW.

PS. If any of you have some advice for me I'd sure appreciate it. My sleazy coked out lawyer is MIA again.

Definitely sounds like you need to find a good lawyer.

Not a "sleazy coked out" one!

Sounds like a bureaucratic tangle. (Lack of communication somewhere among the different agencies.)

Only the really sharp lawyers know what to look for and expect from that, and how to mitigate some of that. Sounds like a mess.

I'm so sorry about what's been going on. I read your earlier thread as well. The whole thing is ridiculous. It looks like they are trying to do anything to deny your rights. I hope justice will be served eventually.
