And after the conversation ended (on friendly terms, but still) I just cried... cried not just for that specific situation but because what happened was so symbolic of my entire life. That I probably never had friends because of stupid things like this... that I'm so miserably lonely because I'm so inept socially (and right now, I got to admit, my nerves are like fireworks).
The supreme irony: someone (who happens to be my sister, who I never remember offending before and usually understands what I'm talking about... sigh, I'm doomed for life) got offended because I compared someone they showed me in a picture to a nerd (I am, of course, very much one myself). And, at this point, after spending what seems like millenia more time online than most people normally do... 'nerd' or 'geek' in my mind have a totally positive stereotype. But this was, of course, in relation to the real world... and in schools etc. kids still get bullied over looking like a nerd (I was never myself though, but that might be because I haven't always had the classic nerd look... I only began wearing glasses in my older teen years etc.)
And so, yes, I offended someone trying to defend someone who looks like a nerd, even though I'd readily do the same thing myself! But FML... I always get ironic situations like these lately on top of all the SNAFU.
