Someone lock this.

Well what happens is, some disorders are real in that they have very clear diagnostic criteria, others are purely made up to sell pills (which is really what this entire thing is about).
Even real disorders (or in our case, a mere difference), eventually the psychiatrists will LOOK for a label to slap on someone, even if they have to exagerate the symptoms. Because it's money, they want to sell pills. Pharmecuetical companies and psychiatrists have this scheme all worked out.
What ends up happening is that people with false disorders end up playing "disabled", either for false identity security, societal pity, maybe a free ride on a government check, or any number of reasons. There are many people on here who claim to be AS who are not, a diagnosis doesn't mean a thing. This has happened with AD(H)D too, which I actually now believe was a minor disorder but now it's kinda hard to take someone seriously when they say they have it, because of all the fakers. Fakers take away a major part of the identity and community voice away from those they impersonate..... Kinda like if a guy dressed up in drag and tried to speak for women (especially if it's something on female issues), it's kinda the same ball and chain.
really it's just another example of how corporations create illness in society and profit off of it. Most of those pills aren't adequately tested, they don't always know what the side effects will be. I'm willing to bet the DEA has a cut in it somewhere, otherwise they'd shut the scheme down (or one would think).

-- Note-- THIS IS THE 3RD F---ING TIME I HAVE POSTED THIS MESSAGE HERE AND EVERY F---ING TIME IT DOESN'T GET POSTED, IT HAD BEST GET POSTED THIS F---ING TIME!! !!!---

That's an interesting comment, Alex. Why don't they like Aspies? What did we ever do to them?!

I think they were protesting the fact that the person that stabbed the other kid was on alot of prescribed drugs at the time, not that fact that he had AS.

I used to think it was all a sham, but now I think it can be helpful for some people some of the time. I do think children are most vulnerable and also most preyed upon by the industry, and that parents aren't often as skeptical about diagnosis/treatments as they should be.

The man in the first video did bring up some interesting points, though. People do throw around mental illness labels to describe people they have problems with, or just another way to verbally assault someone. They wouldn't be as inclined to throw around medical illnesses with the same ease. It is also true that mental illness seems quite different based on culture and even time period. Things they would've given you a lobotomy for decades ago is considered mainstream today, or at least something that is not indicative of mental illness. I was never more skeptical of psychology than when I finished my first college level course in the subject, where I learned how awfully people were treated for things that are considered acceptable today.
