Could I have ADD if rather than being late to work and appointments I'm always 20 to 30 mins early?

I have a real fear of being late. It takes me 2 -3 hours to get ready to go to work in the mornings. I give myself that much time because it takes me hours to go through the process of getting up, making breakfast, shower, choosing my clothes and getting my bag ready. The last 2 are the hardest for me. Then I'll have the impulse to leave the house, even if I know I'll be early. I have to go.
However, I have found that if my anxiety isn't so bad and I don't have that fear of being late, I barely get out the door on time. I need that anxiety to make sure I'm not late.

Should I tell my family I think I have ADD?

For me it feels like "the box that fits". But, I'm worried that my family won't take me seriously. It'll be "everyone is like that at times" and "you think you have everything." My brother once called me a mental hypochondriach (sorry for poor spelling). But, the reason I've looked into lots of different things is because I've always felt a little bit different. Not special or anything. I think ADD is the correct answer.
I would like to tell them so that hopefully they will no longer think of me as being slightly stupid. I also think that maybe my Dad has it, so it could help him too. He always worries and blames himself for forgetting things, thinking it could be a real memory problem.

Thank you

Don't know if that has anything to do with ADD or anxiety. I am the same, and I have neither. If I have to catch a train at 8.16 am, I'll get up at 6 am, so as to have plenty of time getting ready (following my extensive routine), and leave the house at 8 am, even if it takes me only five minutes to get to the railway station. I'm not anxious about it, I just prefer to have time to spare in case something unexpected should happen. Depending on how much (or little) I slept that night it may take me the full two hours to get ready (I'm much slower if I'm tired) or I may have some time left.

Thanks.
I'm still trying to work things out. A lot of things about ADD describe me - how I was as a child and now. But, being late isn't one of them.
Another thing is that partners are often mentioned, but I've never been in a relationship so I wouldn't know if those things apply.

A lot of people with ADD have anxiety also. The best thing to do is see a specialist it can be treated and in some cases without medicines (at least for ADD) there is an online test you can take too http://psychcentral.com/addquiz.htm 25 or more it's highly likely you have ADHD.

You scored a total of 44

Inattention Subscale: 24
Hyperactivity/Impulsivity Subscale: 20

Quote:
Based upon your responses to this adult ADD/ADHD screening quiz, you have replied in a way similar to people who have symptoms of moderate to severe attention deficit disorder. People who have answered similarly to you typically qualify for a diagnosis of ADHD or ADD, and have sought professional treatment for this mental health concern.

If you were diagnosed with ADHD, it would likely be of the Combined type, as you indicated significant symptoms of inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity.

For ADD or ADHD to be diagnosed, usually the symptoms must occur in at least two different settings (like school and home, or work and home), and they must have lasted at least 6 months. Symptoms typically worsen in situations that require sustained attention or mental effort, or that are boring.

You should not take this as a diagnosis of any sort, or a recommendation for treatment. However, it be likely beneficial for you to seek further clarification about a possible diagnosis of ADHD or ADD from a physician or a trained mental health professional soon.

(To compare your scores - I score a 28. I have no ADHD, but have executive functioning problems associated with autism - the neuropsych testing was pretty solid about that.)

I scored a 30.
I also have no ADHD but also problems in executive functioning associated with autism.
Last week my partner got unofficially diagnosed with ADHD and mild autism.
He scored a 47.
Our problems in executive functioning differ in some areas.
