We've had a lot of hard times lately. People dying.

I think we need to take a break, a short one, just to think about the things that make us happy--the things that make us jump and flap our hands, or giggle, or just sit serenely, feeling that everything is perfect.

I feel happy when I look at my cat and I see her look back and me and squeeze her eyes shut in acknowledgement.

I feel happy when I walk down the aisle in a library, and smell the books, and there are so many that look so interesting that I know I will be there for a long time.

I feel happy when it is early in the morning and I wake, fully rested, and it is just barely warm enough not to need a jacket, and I walk to school in the brilliant sunshine, ready to learn.

I feel happy when I have done something that helped someone else, and it was so simple, and yet they are glad. I feel connected to the rest of the world.

I feel happy when I read a really good story that pulls me in, like I am living it, and I forget that the rest of the world exists.

I feel happy when I run my hand across a soft cotton cloth, or swim through cool water, or watch the rainbow auras around the lights through my foggy glasses.

What gives you joy?

I feel joy when a war is avoided.

I feel joy when I see people helping people.

I'm happy when I'm dreaming in my sleep. When awake I sort of wish to avoid the highs & lows life has to offer.

I feel joy when I can do what I want to do with limits I decide.

Just this last week when I've opened my widow wide in my living room, I've noticed a little bird landing on the inside of the window ledge.

I would take a photo of it to show you all but I just don't want to disturb it, it's such a beautiful moment.

Maybe when it gets a little more trusting of me I might be able to get a picture.

I'd love to share it with you all.

It does give me a certain amount of joy.

Thank you for creating this thread. :D

When I've just finished work for the week, had a shower and am ready to relax.

When I'm hungry and just about to eat something delicious.

When I'm sitting in a cafe with coffee and cake and reading a book.

When I'm reading a good horror story in bed.

When the cookies, pies etc that I'm baking are nearly ready to be out of the oven.

I think there are more. I'm having a six-week holiday in 3 1/2 weeks' time. I'm in a joyous mood all the time because of that.

I think it's great when I get in from work and I'm all weather beaten after being on my bike. Then I have a shower and start to feel human again.

That is such a good feeling, I feel like rejoicing

Problem solving- generally making life better for whoevers problem it was, whether its mine or someone elses or a shared problem. If I figure out or contribute to a solution I take fulfillment from it. Learning to use warm fuzzies effectively is important to me.

Collecting things related to my interests makes me happy. I love getting rare and one of a kind things to add to my collections. I love the history behind such stuff. I enjoy being with my family. I enjoy traveling to various places with my family. I enjoy playing music for people. I enjoy writing on my projects.

When I notice improvement in my guitar playing to the extent of impressing myself, the feeling of accomplishment and increased ability is probably the greatest feeling ever that I can experience without the presence of another because I know I'm closer to being able to play the complex music in my head. Sometimes I think my reason for practicing many hours on end each day is to feel this lovely euphoria sooner than later, rather than me being a disciplined individual.

Walking in a cold downpour... The rain combined with the soothing smell of the air and the low light, clears my mind so I can think and emotionally feel much more clearly than in any other setting, and makes everything sensory so pleasantly intense. I of course, have water resistant clothing for such foolhardy outings >_>

Hmm....sometimes I wonder if I EVER felt joyous....

But yes, there are a few things that still make me happy, like --

My dog greeting me at the car when I get home from work. She acts like I'm the absolute love of her life. In reality, she's probably just hungry and wants her tummy scratched. ;)

Rainbows -- I know it sounds sappy, but it's true. I love seeing rainbows, and will stare at then as long as they're visible and in my line of sight.

Ditto beautiful sunsets.

A wonderful meal at one of my favorite restaurants.

The first really cold front of the autumn. Summer is so unbearable here in Texas, and seems as though it will never end. When the cold wind starts whipping and the cold rain starts falling, I'll stand in the middle of it, facing into the wind, the rain splashing my face, and feeling like I can finally breathe again.

Spending time with my friends. Weird for an Aspie, right? I don't have many, but the ones I have are as good as gold. I like to say that they are "good for my soul". Spending time with most people annoys me and generally wears me down. But with these few people, I come away from the encounter feeling better about the world.

Wandering around bookstores. They're becoming fewer and farther between, alas...

A shower, clean sheets and a special someone after a day at the beach.

EDIT: Oh jeez! How could I have made this list and left out bluegrass music!?! Specifically, live bluegrass at outdoor venues, such as music festivals. I could spend weeks in a row at bluegrass festivals.

When my cat does the affectionate "slow blink" at me

When I have a special interest that I can be completely absorbed in

When I am alone and can get completely lost in my imaginary world

Going swimming (probably among my top three favorite things to do)

When my drawings turn out the way I expect them to

Rainy weather

Eating yummy foods (especially the ones that are bad for me  )

Leaving my windows open so then I can sit around in my bathrobe and slippers comfortably

My nightly routine (lurking on DeviantArt when I take my meds, then listening to classical music while I brush my teeth, then curling up in bed while I browse reddit on my iTouch)

Have you ever cried while looking at a double rainbow?
