WRLLing out of order, hard for a lot of people

WRLL-Stands for Watching Video, Reading Text, Listening To Audio, Looking At Pictures/Images

I am wondering why it seems many people have a hard time deviating from the order of things. Why is it hard to watch a TV show out of order, read a series of books out of order, listen to audio books out of order, or looking at manga volumes out of order. These are just one example of each of WRLL, there are so many more. I don't understand why to a lot of people order is paramount when it comes to WRLL.

I look at Big Bang Theory, Star Trek TOS, Master Chef, Hell's Kitchen, etc. Some are episodic, some aren't. The shows that are serials are like a soap opera. I'd get lost if I missed episodes or saw episodes out of order. I've went to Hulu and watched entire seasons of Master Chef and Hell's Kitchen in order because it makes sense that way.
