NHS medical director fails at life re: my AS assessment
I was supposed to be getting assessed (at last !) this month for AS.
However the whole thing has turned into a right monkey business, and now I won't be assessed after all.
There's nobody anywhere near who assesses AS.... there was nobody when I was a child, and nobody now as an adult either.
Children often get sent on a 'plane to see somebody elsewhere and be assessed.
Adults have no f*cking chance, because the local NHS doctors won't refer adults elsewhere for that - and so basically I'd have to just wait until an assessor is in the area.
Which never happens, and the first time ever was going to be this month.
It went like this...
October 3rd - the guy from the local (poorly organised) support group for "Adults with Aspergers" (which is actually a support group for mothers who have kids with AS) wrote, saying that a gentleman would be coming next month to assess adults for having As and would I like an appointment ?
This resulted because the support group guy confronted the local NHS board at their Annual Review, and said they were failing to acknowledge the people who were still wanting an assessment for AS (adults) and that it wasn't good enough for them to just not help any of them.
I wasn't feeling well or something, because I didn't check my e-mail for a while and only saw his e-mail some time later.
And then I ummed and ahhed a bit, considering whether to say yes or not.
So, it was a while before I got back to him.
16th of October - I ask for an appointment
25th of October - He replies, apologising for the delay (it seems that he was on holiday for a while in Germany)
He said that it might be too late to submit me for an assessment by then because of the delay, but said he would "push for that for me", so I wasn't to worry about it.
He requested some details which were needed.
25th of October - I got back to him very quickly, with the details needed to be assessed.
26th of October - Got a short email back, "thanks, will be in touch"
Time ticks on..... and on.... and on..... and I became a bit agitated as I'd had no reply from him.
I wrote yesterday with a "bump" e-mail :
5th November - "When will the assessment be ?"
He got back quickly, yesterday :
5th November :
The idea was for everything to be arranged so you and two other people could see [assessment guy] when he is here.
It is too late to see him Friday but we are working on getting the three of you sorted at the moment.
[The local MP] is pushing on your behalf along with others to get things sorted.
As soon as I know anything firm I will let you know.
Sorry it hasn't gone as it is supposed to but this [medical director] chap is less than honourable.
I will keep you informed and I am happy if you email me again to find out more.
I note that the names are removed not to protect anybody's identity but purely because I don't want the general public to know where I live.... which would be easy to find out if I mention anybody's names.
Well, needless to say I'm very disappointed by this whole situation
I doesn't f*cking surprise me, though.
What I thought might happen was that the support group guy would just drift along and not get back to me until after the assessment time, or so close that it would be impossible to organise transport.
Google tells me that the medical director pillock gets paid £175,000 a year (out of the public tax fund) for... what ?
It doesn't remotely surprise me though, nearly the entire NHS seems to be staffed by incompetent overpaid flakers in my experience.
So, needless to say I'm pretty annoyed with how that all went.
And, I'm not the only one in this situation either.
