What kinds of social mistakes (subtle or blatant) do you make online?

Me: My wording makes me sound like an alien.

I sound like I'm talking to myself (or a mirror), even if trying to address an audience online.

You appear to be making the online mistake of assuming people will respond quickly to your thread irrespective of the time of day. There are lots of Americans on the site, and most of them are asleep at the moment. It would also be encouraging if you'd give some examples yourself in your opening post - something for others to relate to or discuss.

Um....from what I have been told:

Posts too long
Writing too formal
Too much detail/information
Too verbose/long winded (always did go the long way around when explaining things...even my mum used to ask me to get to the point please and that was in person).
Too negative (although I am having trouble seeing this as, with a few exceptions (ie the negativity i feel towards my social life and my chances of finding a compatible life mate....someone to make happy memories with/share happy memories with, to pursue our interests together with and to share intimacy with) I see myself as a more realistic thinker most of the time.

As for other things I don't know...people just keep saying 'this is not the way to make friends' but won't tell me what I did wrong.

Oh and I do the multiple post thing and I will reply to my own threads if no one else replies.

It is the same in real life if I say hi to someone and they don't say hi back. I will mumble to myself (in a tongue in cheek manner)

"oh hello cheryl, and how are you today"
"oh I am ok thank you for asking, and how are you today"
"me I am just dandy thank you"
"thats nice"

Then my conversation trails off like most of my conversations do when I try to socialise. It seems when it comes to making chit chat I even find it hard to chit chat with myself :D

I can talk to myself for hours about stuff I find fascinating though...

People not liking my delivery style and i am getting flamed for that. I usually just go for the facts and straight to the point and that is somehow bad to some people.

Literal interpretations when they yell at me saying i need to "read between the lines".. The only thing there is blank space.

I can ramble a lot and make really long posts that no one wants to read. Also, sometimes I overshare and regret it, but I can't remove my post or someone else has already re-posted it. I try hard not to do that, but sometimes I can't help it or I don't realize that I will regret sharing something until a few hours/days/weeks later.

Sometimes I'll bug the s**t out of people and then sometimes I just won't answer them. I'm aware that I do both and I let people know that it's ok to tell me about it.

My negativity puts people off both online and offline.
I am unable to make friends in either arena.

I'm sure I make them. I'm not sure what most are (other than formal language). I'm not sure how they come across (either subtle or blatant).

I remember in the past that I jumped into a conversation in a chat room. I'm not 100% sure, but it seems the people were annoyed or hostile at me joining in. Too bad they won't tell you what you did wrong. :(

The way I phrase things is "awkward" to other people. *cough*teachers. Yet if only they could see the typos they make...
