From what I've seen of the people on those stupid reality TV shows, that poor aspie is going to be eaten alive.
Yes--except not because of the people on those shows, but because of the producers. Reality shows are usually highly manipulated, so if your Aspie is anything less than a perfect human being, their flaws will be exaggerated; they may be cast as stupid or annoying. If they're particularly intelligent, they may be shown as a narcissistic genius with no common sense. On the other hand, they could be used as a "poor disabled person" for the more aggressive people on the cast to pick on, to show these people's aggressive, shrewd, or socially manipulative nature.
There have been a few Aspies on reality shows before. Abz Love on "Celebrity Big Brother" did rather well, but was already an actor and an extrovert who had been able to hide his AS for years, so he had advantages most of us don't have. Heather Kuzmich on "America's Top Model" was cast as the person that the "mean girls" picked on; from what I understand, the situation was exaggerated, and she wasn't actually bullied more than anyone else. She didn't win, but she did become a professional model.
As far as going on reality TV shows goes--I think most of us would hate it. I think we would hate being manipulated and misrepresented, and a single meltdown or shutdown would immediately cause the producers to give us the role of "the crazy person". Additionally, since many of us are introverts, we would be unable to survive in a place where there is no privacy--either from the cameras or from the other participants.
To actually survive on, and somewhat enjoy, being a reality TV show contestant, one would have to be an extrovert with an extreme degree of emotional stability, be willing to accept the reality of repeated embarrassment, and enjoy "putting on a show"--probably an act or an exaggeration--for the audience. To be successful, you would also need a high degree of social savvy, the ability to manipulate and charm others, diplomacy, reasonably good leadership skills, and good looks. On some shows, you would also need athleticism.
It would be a very unusual Aspie who would enjoy that, but (see above) it has happened.
