I got a 29 on my AQ test...
I scored 33 (undiagnosed/in the process of being diagnosed though it might be worth mentioning im diagnosed with OCD) one thing that irked me somewhat was the fact that ive overcome some of the deficits mentioned. For instance, ive learnt how to tell if someone is bored. Its not all that difficult. They may frown and fidget and perhaps theyll make as if to leave- done, easy. Ive only very recently become aware of this however. As a teenager I would spend hours talking about my issues to friends in an endless stream of consciousness I was once called a "Battleaxe" for instance and at the time had no idea what my friend was going on about. In fact I was socially what I call blind. With time ive come to be aware of the social world around me. I dont know how, it just feels as if these things started to come easier and easier with a little help from that olld standby trial and error
Overall however im pretty clueless socially and I clearly miss alot as people's responses and reactions frequently mystify me. For instance the amount of times ive been ignored or ive seen someone look at me in disgust goes beyond reckoning. Then theres all the social disasters - I feel a thread coming on ![]()
I score 33-34 alternating. I´m diagnosed. I don´t think, that 29 or 33 makes a big difference. After all the AQ deals with stereotyped AS traits. The real picture is far wider.
Yes we learn all life, learn to correct ourselves. Over the last two years I have learnt things like not barging into other peoples conversations (I have done so in the street, - to complete strangers
)
Now I am about to learn how to spot when I am rambling. About time too.
I still miss a lot of the non verbal conversation and tend to understand literally and think very concrete, and that is probably permanent.

I agree with Jensen.
As we get older, we learn to adapt, we (sometimes) become more in tune with our senses and we learn to act like NTs. The test is more applicable to a child than it is to us as adults. I am quite sure, from reading my childhood diagnosis records, that my results on the test would have been 'very likely' to have ASD when I was younger.
As an adult, I score in the high twenties.
The rest of people on the spectrum (20%) score between 26 and 31 (And so other non-autistic people, because the specifity is lower).
If you score below 26 you can discard Asperger's Syndrome.
It's a freaking online quiz, they don't mean that much.

The online tests havent been verified in controlled conditions that is there hasnt been a global study of every single diagnosed AS case and a statistical analysis of their scores. With that data we could work out what the standard deviation mean and range are and thus see how diagnosis and test results correlate. I think the main problem with these tests is that they depend on acute self awareness. I found myself unable to answer many of the questions because Im not nearly self awaren enough to be able to objectively analyse my own behaviour. This is why the results are often profoundly different when we get those close to us to complete the test on our behalf
It is pretty amazing to me how much a "real dx" counts on the forum. Most people here think that the online tests don't mean very much, and one needs a psychologist or a psychiatrist to say it. and write it down.
I kind of agree with you though. I think that if you went to half a dozen psychologists (and never mentioned your previous dx) that maybe one of them would come up with Asperger's. Especially in an adult like yourself. What doctors want to know is "What is hurting you right now?" Telling someone who presents in the office that they have such and so "syndrome" isn't their game. Now they may be thinking about that in the back of their mind, but most of them will be thinking about which pill would make your hurt go away. Telling you what they think you ARE isn't usually part of their job. But of course people who get diagnosed as kids get their dx because the parents see something, or because someone at school recognizes some symptoms. Once you get put on the spectrum as a child there is no getting off that Aspie diagnosis.... even if you score a 29 on The Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ) test (Baron-Cohen et al.)s famous diagnosis quiz.
