when differences feel like limitations
i'm okay with being different from everybody else. i am not okay, however, feeling like i'm limited — particularly when it pertains to things i really want to do i.e. life aspirations and goals. unfortunately, many of my differences have ended up being limitations without my having had much say in the matter. can anyone else relate? if so, how do you resolve this conflict? do you think its possible to be different, as we are, in this world — without feeling circumstantially restricted or marginalized because of said differences?

My approach is go after my goals, and at difficulties and obstacles, use wits, work, creative solutions, and accumulating eggsperiences to overcome. I won't give up going after my goals, just because I am different and limited in certain of my brain functions compared to most people.

I always hated when others would try and set limitations for me. Sometimes they don't even need to know what is wrong with you but if they know you're different, they act like you're incompetent. Sadly some parents do this to their aspie kids. That is a con thing about a label. It's always better if people think I'm normal and wouldn't have guessed so it's always a compliment if they say I seem normal.

What aspirations/goals are you thinking of? Getting a job? Getting a girl-/boyfriend? Getting married? Being popular?
Just asking out of curiosity.

1. live independently.
2. finish my degree (i'm struggling with this right now due to the processing issues i have in class)
3. be able to do a few basic, daily things without being tortured by my environment.
those are the main things, i think. i don't much mind if i stay single.
There's so many things I naturally want to do but only Asperger's is stopping it:-
-Go on a 2-week vacation exploring in California, USA - Can't because the jet lag will be too much for me and will make my mood swings, anxieties and stresses worse and spoil my time and everyone else's time.
Go on a vacation that's less time on the plane, like Poland (would love to go to Poland) - Can't because I've got nobody to go with and I do not want to go on my own. All my family want to go to the USA, and I have got some friends but they either haven't got the money, are tied down with families, aren't into vacations, or aren't close enough to come away with me.
Have a job dealing with the public all day long - Can't because I have severe social phobia and have great problems with being assertive and just facing a customer really fills me with a mixture of fear and shyness. I know I dislike it because I've done some work experience in retail before and that was when I learnt I would not be able to cope with it, and that wasn't long ago. Also I have a tendency to burst into tears if I come into contact with a stressy customer who shouts at me.
Go out clubbing - Can't because I'm too shy and nobody talks to me in party-type places, and so it just makes the night boring for me. Also I can't drink due to medical problems and I have a fear of being sick anyways.
Then people wonder why I feel so miserable about myself.
