I can't drink any carbonated beverage, because the irritation of bubbles going down my throat gives me hiccups every time. I was thinking it must be a sensory thing. Anyone else?

I get hiccups from soda, bread, sometimes water, sometimes basically any food. People have hypothesized that I eat too fast and swallow air. I don't know.

My hiccups are so severe that they can last for hours and hurt really bad. Then I get nauseous and feel like I'm going to throw up but then I just throw up a big air bubble. Then I'm all better.

Its really annoying. I saw this girl on the Today show once who had hiccups non stop for like seven months. Doctors couldn't do anything. I'm glad I'm not her.

I don't drink enough coke to know. It typically burns my stomach, so I don't like drinking it. However, I know what cures my hiccups is sugar water. Works every time.

When I tell people about my hiccup problem, they invariable offer some proven strategy to get rid of them. When I tell them I've tried them all, they say "Oh but have you tried _______? I swear it always works!"

This just annoys me. Nothing works for me except time and, if I can, throwing up air.

No offense to those here who offered suggestions. I just wanted to prevent this thread from turning into one on home hiccup remedies.

Do you burp for 20 seconds when you get the hiccups?

I don't know about hiccups put I don't like the bubbles. I didn't drink it at all when I was a kid because the carbonation hurt my mouth so much. I remember once being at a birthday party and a couple of parents were trying to talk me into trying it because all the other kids were drinking it. They were very persistent but I wouldn't take a sip.

Yeah, it happens to me... Probably because I eat stuff too fast, sometimes.

Um, don't most people? I do if I drink cold soda too fast, but I only do one or two, but they often make me jump and can come out unexpectedly loud. Sometimes a burp comes up with one too, which don't always sound very nice. :hic:

Not soda, but meat. If I eat it too fast I get hiccups. Doesn't happen with any other food/beverage.
